18 OUR YUCAIPA | DECEMBER 2015 By Natalie Palmer Times are tough. And Bob Orr, owner of Uptown Feed and Pet Supply gets it. That's why Orr does his best to help, routinely giving out free bags of dog and cat food to anyone who needs it. In the last four months, Orr has handed out over 15,000 pounds of free food. "In our lives we've had bad luck, and we've had good luck," said Orr about himself and his wife of 57 years Sharon. "So we like to give back to the community when we can." Uptown Pets holds Saturday pet food giveaways every few months. Lines stretch around the block with grateful customers happy to get a little help. And the Orrs don't stop there. In October, the store gave away 1,300 pumpkins to anyone who needed one, and in November, they provided 80 turkeys to the needy through local churches. "People really need the help," said Orr. "These days a family can make what would be considered a good amount of money and still be struggling. Everything is just too expensive." In December, Uptown pets will again offer the free pet food day, along with pictures of your pets with Santa Claus, right in the store. The day will be announced in the Yucaipa News-Mirror. Uptown Pets is a full service pet and feed store offering high quality food for not only dogs and cats, but feed for birds, horses, snakes, goats, chickens and more. The store also carries birds, lizards, bearded dragons, snakes, Iguanas, crabs and turtles. A full service grooming facility is also on site.
