Goals help me stay focused and disciplined. Sometimes I meet them, and sometimes I don't, but I'm every bit closer to the goal. • BUDGETS - Have you ever looked at your bank statement and wondered where it all goes? Are you broke on payday due to bills? No one likes a budget but it's a necessary evil. Write a budget and include long-term bills, like insurance, taxes and vacations. Pay down debt. • SAVING FOR A RAINY DAY - Budgets are necessary but what about the unexpected? No month's budget is exactly the same. You have to plan for a high expense month. You see you have an extra $240 in the account after all bills and necessities paid, what do you do? If you don't put this money away it will turn into impulse shopping. I hide my money from me, that's right. I have an account with a non-local bank/CU that is not easily accessible. I know it's there for the unforeseen expenses or emergencies, but for the most part, I just ignore this account. It works for me; find something that works for you. • KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES - Why? They are broke and in debt. We all know "that" family. They have the cars, toys, nicest home etc. We all want to live like the Jones, But seriously, ask them how they are doing and more than likely they'll tell you they are barely making it. Are you trying to compensate for something in your life? Figure it out and determine the priorities in your life, like family, education, career and quality of life not quantity of Stuff. • RETIREMENT - Maybe your only in your late 20s and retirement is so far away, or maybe you're in your 50s and retirement is a short term goal. It's never too early or late to plan for and invest in your retirement. We are never sure what will be available from Social Security or any other Government assistance funding, so plan for your own future. SETTING GOALS OR SAVING FOR A RAINY DAY At November's Good Morning Yucaipa! breakfast Crafton Hills President Dr. Cheryl Marshall and YCJUSD Superintendent Cali Binks gave a fascinating presentation regarding the education of Yucaipa's youth. Pictured are Dr. Marshall, Chamber President/CEO Amy Minjares and Cali Binks.
