Happy New Year! Can you believe it is 2016? Where does the time go? Your YAH Board has been busy planning for events for this year. Here are some of the activities in the works. Jan. 24, NFL playoffs and chili and salsa contest. It's never too early to start rooting for your team and prepping that chili or salsa recipe. We hope to have many varieties of chili and salsa available for your tasting pleasure. The doors to the North Clubhouse will open at 10:30 am with the game most likely starting at noon. Event is BYOB and you may want to bring appetizers and snacks for your enjoyment while waiting for the chili and salsa judging. Cost is $5 pp. Joe Shaw and Patti are the contact persons for this event, 312-9775. If you plan to enter a Chili or Salsa for the contest, let Joe know when you drop your checks off at 651 Brooklawn. Feb. 13 will be our Valentine's dinner dance. What better way to woo your Valentine than a delicious catered dinner followed by music and dancing? Event will be held at the North Clubhouse starting at 5 pm. Cost is $20 per person. Michele Walter is the contact person for this event, 202-8009. Drop your check off at 4713 Skyview Circle. Event is limited to the 86 members. BYOB. In March, (no date yet) Dos Lagos Corona: live from Memphis rock 'n' roll pianos and more. This is a unique music venue and restaurant inside The Shops at Dos Lagos in Corona. Members who participated in this event last year had a rocking good time with music, food and drinks. This event is still in the planning stages, but we are looking at a cost for the bus ride of $12.50 for YAH members. You will be on your own for food and drinks. The restaurant will have special appetizers available for us. They also have a dinner menu. Seating is limited to 57 participants. We will have more details as to date and time of departure in the Feb Lifestyles. Cheryl Chapman is the contact person for this event. Other planned events include golf in April, tacos and Tequila on May 7, pool party at North Clubhouse on June 18, and a Luau on Aug. 20. Our group is open to all. We meet the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10 am to noon in the Main Clubhouse in the Multipurpose Room. The purpose of this group is to empower visually impaired people to live fulfilling lives. On Jan. 11, the Guide Dogs of the Desert will provide an overview of this program. On Jan. 25, Patricia Russell from OVAC will provide updated information on equipment. A fun meeting will be held on Feb. 8. Mary Cardas, owner of the Savory Spice Shop,will take us on a journey of spices and show how they heighten our sense of smell, taste, and touch. Please call to make a reservation, so we have enough supplies. We accept donations of visual assistance equipment to be recycled within our community. For information call Rita Skwara 267-3054. We meet Wed., Jan 27 at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Dues are $15 for the year so please bring a check to SL Genealogy Club with you to the meeting. We will be handing out the calendar for the 2016 year listing dates of the meetings and scheduled topics and guest speakers. In preparing for some future topics, be thinking about houses where you lived: big city, rural farmland, near the water or maybe in the mountains.
