FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2016 21 Town Hall MeeTing PreParing for el niño The Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC) is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 pm in the Lodge to pass along valuable information about the El Niño storm systems and what homeowners can do to reduce the chances of injury, inconvenience, and property damage. Critical Information: Lecia Elzig, from the Red Cross, will give a presentation about how the storm systems develop in the Pacific Ocean and the overall level of havoc they can cause once they hit landfall. Additionally, Fred Weck, Co-Chair of the EPC, will give useful tips to prepare for the onslaught of rain by taking steps ahead of time to protect personal property, the structure of your home, reduce chances for water getting inside your home, as well as protecting the yard, slopes, and area around your home. Next, we have Corporal Josh Galbraith from the Beaumont Police Department who will provide information on evacuation routes, problem areas in Beaumont, and the city of Beaumont's sandbag availability to Beaumont residents. Tim Chavez, Battalion Chief from Cal Fire Beaumont and Shane Reichardt, from Cal Fire Riverside County will give us an update on areas that have burned and the vulnerabilities that those areas may present to us. Panel Discussion: After the presentations, the speakers will entertain questions from the audience. Prizes: There will be an intermission and drawings will be held for several free prizes available to Town Hall attendees. The prizes include two separate prizes of 10 filled sandbags, delivered to your home. Additionally, two separate prizes of a bucket of emergency food that could be used to provide nourishment for two during a utility outage. Also, a prize of a new 55-gallon emergency water storage barrel that allows storage of water for an extended amount of time. We also plan on giving away small battery powered devices that can be placed on the floor to audibly alert if the floor gets wet. Refreshments: Since no one likes to come to the Lodge to get valuable information and prizes without getting something to eat, we are even providing refreshments. It doesn't get any better than this folks! ~ Fred Weck, EPC Co-Chair Emergency preparedness committee Top photo: Flooded street after heavy rain.
