FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2016 25 Medical Transportation Assistance Interest Group The city of Beaumont is seeking information on residents' transportation needs and desires. Fewer questionnaires have been completed than hoped for. Please fill out a form at the Lodge or online if you haven't already done so. You may think you will never need public transportation or lose your driver's license, but we need to plan for other means of transportation in our elder years. Go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/passtransitseniors to fill out the form online, or pick one up at the Lodge. Our last Transportation Now (T-NOW) meeting Dec. 3 was very exciting. Beaumont Mayor Brenda Knight volunteered to be next year's chairperson. She said her term will be over as mayor and she is excited to work on getting improved transportation for seniors. Mario Janesin of the Riverside Community Access Center was asked to accept the vice chair position and he did. Since we have been working closely with both of them, we have high hopes to move along with our ideas for senior transportation. Eric Ustation of the Riverside Transit Agency informed us that some transit funds that were taken away have been restored, in addition to some new funds. It sounds like we are going to have a banner year for transportation in the San Gorgonio Pass. Hopefully there will be great consideration for senior needs. RTA has free New Year's Eve bus service starting 2:30 pm Dec. 31 through the evening of Jan. 1 for those of you who wish not to drive that night. It is advisable to make a round trip on the RTA, because leaving your car parked overnight in an open lot may not be a good idea. My New Year's resolution will be to get Riverside County to work with San Bernardino County to get some decent Senior transportation to Kaiser Hospital in Redlands and to any of the Beaver Medical Facilities in Redlands and, last but not least, a route from Beaumont to the new shopping complex in Redlands which is almost completed. Wishing all of you a safe and happy 2016. ~ Brenda and Richard Teeman Our group meets in the Lodge Ballroom and is free to attend. Desert Boogie is a place to dance with or without shoes; however you like, with or without a partner, to a wide variety of music. All ages are welcome; a supervising adult must accompany children. We recommend casual, lightweight, comfortable clothing that you can easily move in. A "warm-up" period from 5:30 to 5:50 pm is designed for stretching or finishing your meal. Dance music will play from 5:50 to 8:30 pm This year, we meet Jan. 15, April 29, May 20, June 3, July 15 and Aug. 19. As mentioned, we play a variety of music. Our DJ's goal is to please everyone and keep the dance floor jumping with an evening full of wonderful beats, tempos and melodies to move your body. While the music is predominately from this millennium, multiple decades are represented. Expect to hear unfamiliar music along with an occasional old favorite or an updated version of an old favorite. As an example, the preliminary playlist for January represents music from five continents, six decades, 24 countries, and 33 genres. For many decades David J. Brown a/k/a DJ Brown was a DJ playing monthly at a weekly dance in the Boston area. Since relocating to California, he has played at dances in Lake Arrowhead and Ventura. ~ David Brown.
