| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | January 2016 | 4 Greetings and a Happy New Year to you all. Somehow the year 2016 seems surreal since most of us checked into this life well before the middle 1940's (and some before that.) We think it is safe to say that our life journey's that brought us together here at Four Seasons in Hemet could fill volumes with fascinating stories. Perhaps some of you have taken pen (or keyboard) in hand and compiled your life story. If you have, congratulations, for this is a worthwhile endeavor. Consider for a moment your grandchildren. What, if anything, do they really know about you? Is knowing the story of one's grandparents really important? We suggest that it is. We subscribe to the business of informing them, for they cannot know where they are going unless they know where they have been. Do you have old photographs of your distant relatives with no names or dates, or places on them? How will they become known, or shall they simply disappear? To be sure, we know of some residents who stepped up and in fact helped raise their grandchildren. What greater love? No words suffice. On these lines of thought our lives at Four Seasons are entwined. Where have we been as a community since late in 2003 and where are we going? Does it matter? We think so. For example you should know that the decisions made (or not made) on behalf of the community over the years do not emanate solely from your Board of Directors. When you read through this issue of your Hemet Herald you will find our operating committees telling you of the things they are doing and the projects being worked on. Much of their deliberations involve suggestions or recommendations submitted to them by you, that is to say "us." The previous sentence, in effect, tells you how we all became "they." Now you know the rest of the story. These monthly reports, published for your information, tell the real story of how we evolved as a community and how things came to fruition. However, to be informed you have to read. This then brings us full circle back to documenting what took place during our time here, which is another part of our lives. Amazing how everything is relative, isn't it? As this New Year begins we hope that you will consider offering your services to one or more of our committees as we journey through 2016. Please do not think that you have little to offer, because the fact that you are reading this message indicates that you have an interest and that in itself is important. 2016 is also an election year for four seats on the Board of Directors. Have you ever pondered what that service might be like? In conclusion, you should know that during the recent holiday season, John Baranek and his merry group of volunteers (you know who you are) once again visited the Marine Base at 29 Palms and distributed the bounty contributed in large part by you. You should also know that Mick and Donna Holland once again magically became Mr. and Mrs. Claus to the delight of our troops and their children. The Angel Tree project and the Holiday Home Tour again provided donations to the Salvation Army. These acts of kindness underscore again the true character of our residents. Thank you, Holiday Events Committee members Dana Inslee, Ginny Cole-Weaver, Sharon Sims, Jeanne Lincoln, Colleen Rosenberger, John Baranek, and Betty Barr, as well as all the others who supported and participated in these activities. Message From the Board of Directors Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board, Tony, Greg, Ken, Russ, Jim & Gene Hal Townend, President Hal Townend, President
