FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2016 21
The Emergency Preparedness Committee
(EPC) held several planning meetings prior
to hosting a Town Hall meeting on the
subject of Preparing for El Niño which was
on Jan. 13, after the press deadline for this
article. Several guest speakers from outside
our community gave their perspective on
the cause, and likely effects that El Niño will
present to our residents. More details of the Town
Hall meeting be presented in the March, 2016 Breeze which will
summarize some of the key aspects of the event.
Several residents accused the EPC of arranging for the 4.5
earthquake on Jan. 6 and the subsequent 3.8 inches of rain that fell
in three days that same week, as a way to boost attendance for the El
Niño Town Hall the following week. This is not true. However, Bill
Patzert, a climate scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena
was quoted in the Press Enterprise newspaper that the three days of
rain we experienced Jan. 5 through Jan. 7 should be considered "like
a preview or movie trailer" of what's to come, especially during late
January, February and March. Let's get ready!
The EPC's next meeting will be Feb. 16 at the Lodge. We are always
looking for residents who like to have fun and work together and
volunteer to better prepare our community to handle, among other
things, earthquakes and rainstorms! ~ Fred Weck, EPC Co-Chair
