Bridge for Fun Bridge Canasta #1 Join us for an afternoon of friendship and fun while playing a game of Hand and Foot Canasta. We meet in the Card Room Thursdays, 1 to 4 pm. Each week you may play with someone different, giving you an opportunity to meet other Four Seasons residents and old friends who enjoy an afternoon of "cool" cards. We supply the cards so all you have to bring is your body and the desire to have a little fun. If you don't know how to play we are always happy to set up a teaching table and by the time the afternoon is over you will have mastered the game. All you have to do is show up and leave the rest to us. ~ Melody Seewoster Bunco As I write this article we are definitely in the midst of winter and I assume that when you read this it will still be cold. Don't let that keep you in the house. Come on out and play Bunco. This month we will be playing Feb. 5 and 19. We have a great time and you will meet some very nice ladies. So grab a friend or neighbor and come join us. We play at 1 pm sharp in the Card Room. Don't forget to grab a drink at Smitty's or maybe even lunch beforehand. See you then. ~ Cheryl Burke & Suzanne Roldan Mah Jongg Everybody is welcome to join us for Mah Jongg at 12:30 pm on Mondays in the 1528 Building. We accept beginners and offer coaching for those who have not played in several years. A current Mah Jongg card is required but you can borrow or copy one until you get your own. You do not have to own a Mah Jongg set to join the fun, so come on out! ~ Barbara Goodreau Pinochle Pinochle is an exciting card game where you bid and bluff to name trump and take control of the game. This game is played with a double deck of special cards of ace through 10 against other aficionados, to tease your mind, and keep you sharp. Come join the game on Wednesday and Fridays from 10 am to 1 pm in the Card Room. Newbies and oldies are welcome for fun and socializing. Info., George Soeten, (951) 797-0254. ~ George Soeten We are looking for players, substitute players, and people who are interested in learning the game. I am happy to teach anyone who wishes to learn the game, either individually or in a small group, your home or mine. Pan is a card game, much on the order of gin in some respects, and played with up to eight people at a table. It is played by both men and women, so men are very welcome as well as women. The game can be played in the day, evening, in a room in the Lodge or in private homes. If you are interested, please call me, Linda Mendelson, at (951) 941-9100 or email me at Goldtoy@earthlink.net and I will answer any questions you may have. As all card games, it is played with both skill and luck. ~ Linda Mendelson Pan 38 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2016 Bridge for Fun meets on Mondays at 12 noon sharp. On Mondays Bill Guy will present a 30-minute review of most used conventions starting at 11:30 am. Verina and Bob Rector plus Bill Guy have been working very hard on a new system to keep track of players scores for recognition of winners. This has required much time and effort setting up a computer spread sheet system. I have recently noticed that a few of our newly- trained players would benefit from the Monday review and getting back to bridge basics. One rule of bridge is if you have trump control lead trump early to avoid trump ins. And secondly, don't invent your own systems. Bid your best suit first. We play in a party bridge format rotating partners and tables. We discuss our favorite conventions with our partners. A few of our members have recently had major falls. We wish them speedy recovery. Monday info., Bill Guy (951) 845-5627; Wednesday info., Verina Rector (951) 769-1687 or Phil Irving (760) 447-0007; Duplicate info., Halley (760) 898-3215. ~ Dr. Phil We are so fortunate here at Four Seasons to be able to accommodate a large and progressive Duplicate Bridge Club. The setting is comfortable and has room to expand for the growing interest of players. We meet at 12:15 pm on Fridays in the RCN Building. This is a sanctioned game in order to obtain ACBL Master Points. Please call Candice Parrish at (951) 530-1523 for an appointment. ~ Helen Shoemate-Gurley Duplicate bridge Someone once said, "It isn't what you know, it's who you know that can make all the difference in the world in which you live." Four Seasons has an abundance of talented, resourceful people available to assist you with information about the bridge world. It is a game of dedicated, conscientious players who enjoy the game of rules that challenge the mind. We meet at 12 noon every Monday in the Recreation Center North building. We look forward to having you join us. For more information, call Helen at (951) 845-9312. That elusive Grand Slam can be yours with practice and skill. Good luck. ~ Helen Shoemate- Gurley
