FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2016 39
Performing Arts Club
Welcome to February, the month of LOVE. I
would LOVE to see you at The Lodge on Friday,
Feb. 6, at 6 pm, coming to see the Performing
Arts Club present two radio shows.
Tom Shelley, the producer of the shows,
can better explain what the shows are all
about… "We've all seen the pictures and films
of families in the 1930s and 1940s sitting in
the parlor and 'watching' radio. What were
they looking at? Did they know something
we didn't? Did they know that soon we
WOULD be watching radio but we would call
it 'television'?
"Maybe what they were imagining was
what fun it would have been to be in the
audience at the radio station where their
favorite shows were being broadcast. Most of
us never got that opportunity. But now you can
change that! We are inviting you to the studios of WFSB Radio right
here at the Four Seasons Ballroom to, finally, have that experience…
(sort of ).
"On Friday, Feb. 6 at 6 pm we will present two old radio show
episodes, one each of Gunsmoke and Blondie. Our actors will portray
the various characters on stage, in front of microphones, holding
scripts, just as you would have seen in
any one of hundreds of radio studios
around the country in the 1930s, 40s,
& 50s. When we hear people comment
that they can close their eyes and recall
listening to these shows as a child, we
know our mission is complete. Believe
me, we have as much fun presenting
these programs as you have listening to
and watching them."
So, come on out and join us for a fun
evening of radio nostalgia. Who knows,
maybe it will jog a few fun childhood
memories for you as well." Thanks, Tom,
that was extremely well said.
Next up for this fun group, after our
radio show, is the comedy variety show
on Friday, April 1! Make sure to put this
one on your calendars; John Horning is producing this show and it is
sure to be spectacular. Trust me, you don't want to miss it.
