42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2016 Table Tennis Racquet Club The December Play Day was more of a Nay Day. On the Saturday following Christmas Day, the turnout for the Play Day turned out to be just Irve Sturner and Larry Martin. And while those two are good enough to play men's doubles on their own, mixed doubles were pretty much out of the question. Not even the reliable Ambassadors Mickey and Howard Nelson showed up, retaining their usual prize drawing detritus for a more propitious day. Weather permitting, that day could be Saturday, Feb. 27, and all tennis-playing residents are welcome to come out at 8:30 am and join in. Also a casualty of the weather and busy schedules, the Thursday evening doubles play has been placed on hiatus until March or April. When it's time, Barb Miller will again set up the matches for those nights. One of the Four Seasons Beaumont Racquet Club's founding Committee members decided to pack his racket and tennis balls and relocate. Romy Villena, an all-around good guy and skilled tennis player, has left Four Seasons and the Committee. That means the Club has also lost Romy's daughter Aba an accomplished tennis player and coach, who provided valuable and fun clinics on several occasions. Club members interested in supporting the Racquet Club by serving on the Committee are encouraged to contact Irve, our Committee Chairman, or Committee members Barbara Miller, Howard Lyon and Steve Hovey. For those interested in watching world class tennis rather than just playing, ticket sales for the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament are still going on for the March 7 through March 20 event. The top men and women professionals will participate in this tournament played nearby at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. There is free admission for the March 7 and March 8 qualifying rounds, and those players are incredible, too. Information and tickets are at www.bnpparibasopen. com Our club website is www.fsbrc.org. Check it out. ~ Steve Hovey You never know what visitor is going to show up at ping pong. Even though December is the busiest time of the year for him, Santa took time out on Dec. 21 to play a little ping pong with us and to give out a little gift to everyone. It didn't even matter if they had been naughty or nice. Our Ping Pong Club owes a big thanks to Santa for all the things he has done for us. Some of those things include giving us nets, balls, dividers, and fixing broken tables. Some people don't believe in Santa and think that this visitor was really Don Fant dressed up as Santa, but as for the people in the picture above, they believe. Whether you believe in Santa or not, we would love to have you join us at ping pong. You can find us in the aerobics room Monday through Friday at 10:30 am and Saturday at 11 am or on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 pm. Please contact Niles Sundstrom at (951) 572-5119 or Alan Chan at (951) 769-4202 if you have any questions or need more information about your Four Seasons Ping Pong Group. Contact Neil Edelbaum (760) 877-5619 for more information about night time ping pong. ~ Niles Sundstrom Santa himself played a game with the Table Tennis club Niles Sundstrom, Rob Gardner, Neil Edelbaum, Luis Luna, Irene Pope, Alex Castanon, Sun Cha Castanon, Perry White, Michael Berta, Anita Schulz, Sally White, Lois White, Bob, and Barry Pope enjoyed a visit from Santa
