| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2016 |27 This is an extremely difficult month for me. Not only do I turn a year older this month, it is one year since I lost my mother and four years since I've been responsible for the medical and financial needs of my 90-year-old father. The point is, I am a caregiver just like you. I have been where you are and where you are going. Each one of you is special to me and in my thoughts and prayers always. I cannot urge you enough to attend the support group. It will help. Our next meeting and caregivers support group will be Thurs., March 17 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. As of this writing, our guest speaker has not been confirmed. If we do not have a guest speaker, it will give you more time for the support group. The support group is so very important. You will meet people who are going through the same things as you. It is also a chance to make friends with people who understand your problems. Our patient group meets in the Arts & Crafts Room. This group is designed to help you, the caregiver. Just drop your loved one off and go on to the meeting. Enjoy the meeting and support group knowing your loved one is well taken care of and having fun. We play games, do exercises, have entertainment and do just about anything your loved one wants. Our volunteers are loving and caring. This month Ray Rendon performs. In January, Tin Man's Heart (Lee and Michael Stone) performed. We cannot thank them enough and are happy they have agreed to entertain us again. Susan Brown performed in February and, as usual, we all had a wonderful time. If you have any questions about the meeting, support group or patient group, call me (Anne) at 845-8700 or Diane at 769-0130. We are here to help you. We also have reading material we can loan you. Give Joanie a call at 769-1386. Continuing with the 50 things you should know about Alzheimer's disease, here are numbers 25, 26, and 27. 25. People with Alzheimer's will need a power of attorney for financial and medial decisions. 26. They will also need a will and an advanced directive or living will. 27. Alzheimer's is progressive. This means symptoms get worse over time. Memory Care Group Our next show "The Legacy Continues" is on March 13. It's a musical tribute to the accomplishments and talents of Jackie Wilson by his son, Bobby Wilson, a great artist in his own right. Utilizing his singing and dancing talents, Bobby presents his distinctive view of the Motown era, including a salute to Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Elvis, Bruno Mars, and many more. The show is energetic, full of classic sounds as well as new soulful sounds. It's designed to entertain the audience and be a night to remember. Although born in New York, an infant Bobby ended up in the South Carolina foster system where he was given the name Bobby Brooks. Unaware of his lineage, young Bobby was stricken with an array of childhood diseases ranging from rickets to bronchitis. He was unable to thrive and play like other children his age, so he found comfort in music. Many years later, long after he began performing, he realized that his musical talent flowed naturally because he was the son of Motown icon Jackie Wilson, who was at the height of his career for hits including "Lonely Teardrops," "Higher and Higher," and many more. When he was 16, Bobby joined Project Upward Bound through which he met his birth mother and sisters. In his first semester at the University of South Carolina, he made the decision to drop out and join the Navy. After his honorable discharge in 1989, Bobby participated in a talent show. This led to further performances at local venues, and began his career as an entertainer. He soon became a back-up singer for Peter and the Love Notes, starring lead singer Peter Hernandez. Peter Jr. went on to find fame in his own right as Bruno Mars. Today, Bobby entertains audiences of all ages around the world with his unique and spirited style. Merging the sounds of his father and yesteryear with soulful current sounds, his show is full of energy and is guaranteed to bring fans to their feet. Tickets for this show are $20 for members, and $25 for non-resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm, and the show begins at 7 pm.
