32 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2016 | Think maybe you should have cropped that photo differently? Maybe it's too dark or the subject should not have been centered. Sun Lakes Photo Group meetings are the place you belong. We get to share our pictures at each meeting, have a yearly exhibit in the Main Clubhouse and take field trips. For March you may bring your favorite shots to share with the group. Meetings are always on the second Monday of the month at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The next meeting will be on March 8. This month we will go over what makes a winning photo. We will discuss winning photographs from a recent Redlands Camera Club competition. There is a projector system and photos can be brought on either a CD or a flash drive, sometimes known as a thumb drive. If you would like to see what members of the group have been doing there is an electronic display next to the main clubhouse lounge that has revolving photos. Some of our members had no idea which end of the camera was which when they first started and you will see that their progress is amazing. You will like attending the Sun Lakes Photo Group. Meetings are informal, there are no dues and whether you are a novice or a pro it is always fun to see what others are doing with their cameras. For information please call Steve Felber, 769-6898. Photography We wonder about the purpose of life. What higher purpose than to discover our true nature? Meditation, an integral part of proceeding on a path of Self (God) – Realization promises to do just that. When the mind with its myriad thoughts becomes quiet and still, we can feel what lies beyond. The Pure, Non-Dual (only ONE) Consciousness lies beyond and is our true, undifferentiated and eternal being. Satsang (group meeting with a spiritual aim) begins with a 30 minute meditation (15 minute if new people are present) followed by a discourse and a short video presentation offered by a teacher adhering to the same teaching of Non-Duality. As always, questions are warmly encouraged. We meet in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room (next to the Library). We meet weekly Wednesdays 2:30 to 3:45 pm and Sundays 11:30 am to 1 pm. (Note: On the fourth Wednesday of the month satsang starts at 3:30 pm) This is a free offering. My background includes 29 years of formal spiritual practice under the guidance of two masters and six years of teaching (four at Sun Lakes). You need not bring anything except an open mind. My name is Gina and I can be reached at gina-sat@msn. com or 846-1220 if you have further questions. Meditation: a pathway to truth Did we miss you at our last Karaoke gatherings? These were not to be missed events and yet I wonder if you were there? Barb,Rosie and D.J. Blast made everyone feel right at home as they greeted everyone. Our Karaoke family is growing little by little as we hope that you who are a singer or possibly a listener can join us and become a member of our extended music family. In February we were lucky enough to have our first Karaoke gathering on Feb. 13, the eve of Valentine's Day in the Main Ballroom. Many of our regulars sang beautiful love songs, from Rod Stewart to Sarah Vaughn. D.J. Blast encouraged a sing-a-long for those who were there to watch or maybe too inhibited to get up and sing. Everyone was entertained with Barb Miller's Lounge style songs which also included some country classics. Rosie Ingalls made it fun with her up tempo good time songs that put a smile on the faces of the audience at hand. Another added feature of these gatherings is D.J. Blast's ability to switch from strictly Karaoke to transition and weave a slight peppering of dance favorites along the way for those who love to line dance and shake a leg. Our Sat., Feb. 27 event in the South Clubhouse was equally fun, entertaining and received well by all. It's the best deal in town and it's free. All you have to do is attend. So is this the month you come out and join us for a song, dance and a welcoming hand-shake? Our next event is on Sat., March 5 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. By the way, don't miss the following Karaoke event on Fri., March 25 in the South Clubhouse. Our Karaoke gatherings begin at 5:30 pm until 9:30 pm. Hopefully, we'll see you there. Karaoke Group Creative Writers FREE MONEY: The next best thing is enjoying the fellowship of the men and women sharing their gifts in a casual group setting. We all have stories to write, fact of fiction, a poem to share from the delightful to profound, a letter to a loved one or an editorial. The last meeting we were entertained by a true pet story, a fictional cross-country road trip via Route 66, some eye-opening poems and song lyrics. Sun Lakes is full of talent and it's your time to shine, we are waiting on you. Gifts left on the vine will wither or your well will run dry. We meet first Monday of each month in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room from 3 to 5 pm; and the third Wednesday of each month in the North Clubhouse from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Info., Roger Smith, 769-2808.
