| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2016 | 5 EPAP's primary goal, following the occurrence of a large scale emergency event is to locate all Sun Lakes residents who are in urgent need of medical attention and to get them transported to a local qualified medical facility. There are many facets to the EPAP operation but they are all in place to facilitate the successful accomplishment of that primary and important goal. For nearly all types of significant emergency events your initial notification will likely be through the Riverside County Early Warning Notification System (Reverse 9-1-1) which will typically include some survival recommendations. A major earthquake is the obvious exception as you will know when it occurs. Emergency events occur in a wide variety of ways; complexity, intensity and scope of areas affected. In general, however, they can be described in three categories. Category 1. An emergency exists and can be resolved with the resources that have been assigned. Category 2. An emergency exists and can be resolved with a few additional resources to assist those already assigned. Category 3. A large scale emergency exists and will require more resources than are immediately available to meet and resolve the demand. In case of an earthquake, EPAP and its emergency measures only needs to be activated if there is reason to believe that it may qualify as a Category 3 event because you can see cracked plaster, and/or broken windows, and/ or toppled fireplaces, and/or fallen wall adornments, and/or any other damage that would suggest that the quake was severe enough to have caused injuries. The information preceding is in response to questions asked as a result of the several minor quakes that have occurred recently.
