Our 2016 events thus far have been a huge success and tons of fun. Thanks to all who have worked in the planning and execution of theses events. And there are more fun times to come. APRIL 10 GOLF EVENT: The fun begins on the Executive Course with a 12:30 pm sign in at the North Clubhouse. A shotgun start at 1 pm gets the balls rolling. The entry fee for all golfers is $20 pp. If you are not an annual member of the Golf Club, there is an additional $20 pp golf course fee. Entry fee includes beer, margaritas, prizes and a delicious dinner following the golfing. Entrants can sign up as a foursome. Be sure to indicate your handicap on your check. Members who do not wish to golf can join in the catered dinner at the North Clubhouse at 5 pm for a charge of $10 pp. The event is BYOB (don't forget to bring your own drinking glasses!). Drop your checks off at Cindy Cross's residence at 5905 Gullane Ct. If you have any questions regarding this event, contact Kathy Weeks at 503-341-5607. Our group is open to all. We meet the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10 am to noon in the Main Clubhouse in the Multipurpose Room. The purpose of this group is to empower visually impaired people to live fulfilling lives. On Jan. 11, the Guide Dogs of the Desert will provide an overview of this program. On Jan. 25, Patricia Russell from OVAC will provide updated information on equipment. A fun meeting will be held on Feb. 8. Mary Cardas, owner of the Savory Spice Shop, will take us on a journey of spices and show how they heighten our sense of smell, taste, and touch. Please call to make a reservation, so we have enough supplies. We accept donations of visual assistance equipment to be recycled within our community. For information call Rita Skwara 267-3054. I think I'm related to Cinderella because I'm wild about classy shoes! What do you think? Should I research that ancestor who passed on to me a fashion trait? Yes, of course. We meet Wed., March 23 at 1 pm in the North Clubhouse, an alternative as we want access to a kitchen. The program is "From our Grandmothers' Kitchens" therefore a potluck of some of our favorite recipes that remind us of our ancestry or nationality. Maybe a special cookie or pudding or biscuit that brings back fond memories that would make a great entry story in the family tree book. Bring us a sample to share at the meeting or if you don't want to cook something, how about the recipe or a picture of a special dish. By the way, I will be bringing Irish Soda Bread and how appropriate for March – the month everyone is Irish! Info., Ann Oliver, 769-5955. Genealogical Society
