32 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2016 Please join us on Tuesday, March 8 at 9:30 am for the next meeting of the Book Club. We will be discussing the novel The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. This is an epic love story and family drama set in France at the beginning of World War II. It is a profound and compelling portrait of two estranged sisters living in a city under siege and of a country at war, where sometimes surviving means doing the unthinkable. All are welcome to join us whether or not you have had a chance to read the book. For further information, please contact Doreen Sanders at (951) 769-1913. ~ Linda Lambeth Book Club Our genes are inherited and, by most of us, transmitted from our generation to the next. They make us what we are: human beings with a marvelous body, a free mind and a great variety of emotions. By sharing some of our mental and emotional products, we benefit our own generation and possibly the future generations we helped create. This can be done in several ways, but in no way easier and better than by writing. Some 3,000 years ago, Homer used poetic words to compare the transmission from one generation to the next. He wrote in his Iliad: "Just as are the generations of leaves, such are those of mankind. As for the leaves, the wind scatters some on the earth, but the luxurious forest sprouts others when the season of spring has come, so of mankind one generation springs and another passes away." You and I will have our turn. What more can we leave to the next generations? Why not a few words from us about our thoughts, our home, our work, our travels, our hopes, our joys, our loves, even our pains, each of us in a style as unique as our genes and their human developments. The Writers' Club can help you do it and do it better. It's fun. Join us at the next meeting on Tuesday, March 8 at 1:30 pm, at the Lodge. Don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions at (951) 769-1520. ~ Joseph Laurin Party time: What can you do on a Saturday evening to meet with friends or make some new ones? I know what you can do on at least one Saturday night a month. Come down to the Lodge Ballroom after 5:30 pm on specified Saturdays, check the Breeze or call the Lodge front desk to verify which night is karaoke night. Yes karaoke night. I am proud to say we put on a heck of a show. This is not your bar room Karaoke, where a bunch of drunk guys get up and try to sing, OH NO. We have a group of pretty darn good singers who sing songs across many genres, some of which are bound to please your musical palate. Our last karaoke was a blast, for three hours from 5:30 pm to 8:30 we ate, drank, sang, danced, visited and laughed. If that ain't a party, I don't know what you'd call it. We invite you to join us on Saturday night March 12 at 5:30 in the Ballroom, it's party time again! Oh, and did I mention it's FREE! (Just provide your own food and drinks) Oh ya, and you don't have to sing, but you're always invited to give it a shot. ~ John, Jerry and Dave "The Karaoke Herdsmen" Writers' Club Karaoke The March presentation will be on the first Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30 am in the Ballroom, instead of the usual meeting date on the second Tuesday of the month. The subject will be "Technology from a Different Perspective." This is a very new presentation. Looking back and comparing it to now, it is an enjoyable and funny comparison combined with the stark reality of what you need to do to keep safe in the modern world. This presentation will cover computers (Windows and Mac), tablets and smart phones. Join presenter Bob Gostischa as he takes a comical look back in time and then explains what you need to know to stay safe in the present. Bob has contributed over 30,000 forum interactions. Bob is not on the payroll of Avast, but they do sponsor all of his presentations. Avast Antivirus is currently the most used antivirus software in the world. Avast has been making security software for over 25 years and has more than 230 million users worldwide. ~ Phil Jaffe Computer Technology
