17 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | March 2016 | March Tip of the Month: If you live alone it is imperative that you, in addition to having an emergency contact system, have someone you can check-in with daily who will be alerted if you fail to contact them because you are incapacitated. There are instances where people could have been saved if they had not been left in bed, or on the floor, for days! This someone could be a neighbor, friend, or family member. And, everyone should have emergency information and contact information like Vial of Life, or File of Life, kept current and readily available. An Internet search for either of these will lead you to an on-line, downloadable form. You should also make an effort to determine who your Street Captain is. So what are the Emergency Preparedness Committee and Street Captains, and why do many of us take the time to take special training like Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), CPR or Red Cross First Aid courses? Because we believe that should a situation occur that taxes, or incapacitates, normal emergency services (Fire, Medical, or Police), it is better to have some plan in place that can mitigate the impact on our Four Seasons community, than not have any plan. So we meet, and train, and plan, on a regular basis to prepare for such an event. We also try to identify special needs of our neighbors and keep them informed about how to prepare for an emergency or disaster. Please consider becoming a Street Captain for your block, or area! For more information, please check the Four Seasons' calendar for meeting days and times (generally the last Monday of the month at 6:30pm in the lodge, so come on by! We still want to encourage anyone with a marketing/recruiting background to join us in establishing a program to achieve an even greater level of participation in community emergency preparedness.
