The Calimesa Community Gardens popular
Colossal Tomato and Pepper Plant sale is set for
April 2 in the former Fresh & Easy parking lot at
1126 Calimesa Blvd.
The sale runs 8 am to 2 pm or until plants are sold
out and a line usually starts forming around 7 am.
The annual sale is a fundraiser for the community
garden to keep their expenses and fees low.
The sale features tomatoes and pepper plants in
over 50 hybrids, heirlooms, and hard to find varieties.
"The cool thing about the heirloom varieties is
that you are not going to find them in big box stores,"
said Calimesa Community Garden board member
Anna Klinzing. "There are old school plants that
someone brought from Europe 60 or 70 years ago."
The peppers and tomatoes are starter plants that
are easily transplantable and vary from four to 12
inches in size. Some 70 percent are certified organic.
"They are nice, healthy plants," said Klinzing. The
public is welcome.
