Dept. sponsored class Regular weight training does more than just build better muscles; it builds a better, healthier body. Several studies confirm the benefits of mild-to-moderate resistance training at least three days a week, which includes reduced blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol levels and higher HDL cholesterol levels, all of which improve cardiovascular health. Weight training also improves the way the body processes sugar, which could reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Another study examined the effect of weight training on osteoarthritis. This study and others confirm that exercise of any kind improves strength, gait and ability to perform activities of daily living among older adults with osteoarthritis, and, in many cases, reduces the pain associated with the disease. ~ Jason Ewals FROM THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT: THE IMPORTANCE OF STRENGTH TRAINING GENERAL CLASS INFO. If there are not enough people enrolled, a class will be canceled. If you register at least a week early, we'll be able to save classes that appear to have not met the minimum enrollment. In most cases, we'll also be able to add classes if we exceed the maximum enrollment provided a wait list has been established prior to the first class meeting. Class fees are determined by the number of participants enrolled in each class. For current fees, please contact the class instructor. Due to the number of participants, the class fee may be increased slightly or the class may be canceled.
