| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2016 | 3 By Doug Swenson FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK For those of you who did not attend the Feb. 18 open session of the Master Board, you missed the end of an era here at Sun Lakes Country Club. George Moyer, a member of the Board for the last eight years and president for four years, resigned from the Board. His position on the Banning City Council was taking too much time away from his responsibilities as an HOA Master Board member and he decided that the best way to resolve this as quickly as possible was to resign. We, as the remaining Board members, will miss his experience and his wisdom as we move forward. As vice president, I , Doug Swenson, will assume the role of president until the new Board elects its new slate of officers on April 13. Since you will be reading this in early April, I want to remind you that if you have not submitted your ballot for the Master Board and the District Delegate members you only have a few days left to get it mailed. If, for some reason, you don't get it mailed prior to the date noted on the ballot, you can bring it to the Ballroom by 9 am on April 13 and it an be added to the count. Voting for your selected slate of candidates is the most important thing you can do as HOA members of Sun Lakes Country Club. Don't throw away your ballot. Once the election is completed and the new Board has taken over, please approach all the candidates and thank them for their time and interest. Being on the Board is not for everyone, but all of us appreciate getting positive feedback from time to time. Your association is run by an elected Board of Directors who volunteer their time to act in your best interest by meeting, discussing and making the decisions that keep your development a viable place to live for current and future residents. As board members, we are approached all the time with recommendations from members in regards to a large variety of subjects. We understand the need to present your opinion on these subjects, be we ask two things. First, if it something of major substance, it is best to submit these requests in the form of a letter to the Board since the person you are talking to is only one member. We can only discuss items and get results when we are in an official meeting where decisions can be made. Second, if you approach a Board member with a questions, please show some respect for their situation. Many times I have been in a discussion with a friend at some social event and a member will jump into the conversations with those infamous words: "Could I interrupt you for just a second?" We are willing to listen to your concerns, but please wait until the Board member is free to speak with you. We, as Board members, try to attend as many events as we can and are willing to listen as time allows. All Sun Lakes residents recently received a letter from Time Warner informing us that if we were still using an analog TV, we would need a converter to get all the channels. The converter was for rent for a monthly fee, but the first year was free. In discussions with Time Warner, they have agreed to allow us to get up to two converters rent free for the length of the current contract which expires in Sept. 2020. Just another reminder to everyone about the age verification forms that you all received along with your Lifestyles Magazine a couple months ago. These need to be filled out and returned to the administration office by August. In order to retain our 55 and older housing status we must prove we meet the federal requirements of 80 percent over 55, and the way we do this is with these forms. Many of you have already responded, but those of you who haven't will need to fill them out ASAP so we don't have to go door to door. On a lighter note, we will be conducting several golf course tours here in Sun Lakes over the next few months. We know there are many residents who don't play golf and who have never seen Sun Lakes Country Club from the golf course side so this is your chance. We did this several years ago and it was very favorably received. Several dates and times (usually late afternoon) will be selected and posted in the pro shop. Please, only 10 people per tour, two people per cart. Any more than that makes communications on the course difficult. If you want to go on the tour but have no cart, we will provide one for you. There will be a sign-up sheet requesting some basic contact information and we will call you confirming your tour date and time. We look forward to many of you participating. The Sun Lakes Country Club Homeowners Association Annual Meeting of the Membership and Election of Directors will be Wed., April 13, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, at 9 am. Registration of hand-delivered ballots will begin at 8:30 am. There will be three open positions on the Board. Each newly elected director will serve a two-year term. Election results will be announced at the end of the meeting. 2016 Annual Meeting of the Membership & Election of Directors
