Tennis Pop Tennis We are so happy to report that the new SLCC Paddle "POP" Tennis Club had its first inaugural party for members, member's families, and friends on Feb. 20. We are even more excited to announce that party celebrators numbered 85 and could have been close to 100 were it not for absentees with prior commitments or out-of-towners. Party goers enjoyed a great Italian dinner catered by Johnny Russo's and entertainment provided by our own incredibly talented members, Michael & Lee Stone of Tin Man's Heart. Co-Presidents, Jeannie McGuire and Sally Wolfe, thanked all the attendees for making this night so special and made a few brief announcements prior to the dinner regarding upcoming tournaments and parties that are scheduled through 2016. Following dinner, it was dancing and revelry until everyone could "POP" no more! We are extremely flattered and honored to be sanctioned and recognized by the National POP Tennis Association, (U.S.P.T.A.) under the inspiring leadership of President, Ken Lindner. Ken is so excited to see how we are publicizing and promoting the POP Tennis movement that he will be featuring our Sun Lakes POP Tennis Club on their website. Check out our amazing SLCC website, created by Scipia Curtis, for more information on all the activities we have going on and what efforts we are making to promote POP Tennis. Our current schedule of play is Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. at 10 am and Tues., Thurs., Sun. at 8 am. Also, Tues. & Thurs. evenings at 5 pm. For further information, please call Jeannie McGuire 845-8817. Paddles are available for new players and we ask that everyone please observe the "no perfume/no cologne" policy to help all our players who have allergies. Please check out the bulletin board adjacent to the courts for information on activities, events and upcoming clinics. See you at the courts! Join our group and practice with us from 12 to about 2:30 pm in our Monday through Saturday open play sessions. There is no cost to join our group. To maximize play, we select partners from those present. To keep things interesting, most like to play for quarters. The group also has six teams that play three 11-13 week seasons per year, beginning in early September and ending in late June. Each Thursday, six teams compete in our Billiard Room and one away tournament is played against teams from either Four Seasons or the Sand Trap Sports Bar & Grille. Team participation is not required, but group members may want to join a team for any of those seasons. These team games are one-on-one; no partners. It costs $15 per season to join a team and compete in the weekly matches. Like handicaps in golf, players establish individual skill levels, which helps even out the competition. Not sure if you want to join? Come play with us, or just watch. Get to know us and the game we play.
