Here come the tickets and the ballyhoo! Charity week will be here soon! The District Delegates and the Zone Captains will be busy this month making sure all homes receive their bag of tickets and information about the biggest event of the year at Sun Lakes. What is Charity Week? It is a week of fun for Sun Lakers, a week to enjoy the events and at the same time raise funds to help the needy in the Pass Area. Every day from June 20 through June 26 there are fun games for all to participate in. It began more than 25 years ago with a golf tournament with locals and stars. The proceeds went to charity. Over the years it developed into a full week of fun and games. We now have a pancake breakfast, helicopter ball drop, golf tournament, bocce ball tournament, tennis tournament, Texas Hold 'em game and a lot more during the week. This year there is a new event — casino night! We will have a professional gaming company that will transform our Ballroom into a casino with all of the tables and fun stuff that goes with it. We need a big crowd to gamble for charity… HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! Our Charity Week is extremely important to the Pass Area. Each year we donate funds to worthwhile charities in the Pass Area. In 2015, $85,000 was given to 22 groups. To date, Sun Lakers have given well over $1,000,000 to entities needing our help. When you consider what goes into organizing Charity Week, you will understand that it is an effort of our entire complex. Under the direction of Sandy Moyer, almost 200 volunteers present a variety of events for everyone to enjoy. If you are interested in helping during Charity Week pick up a "Volunteer Interest Form" at the reception desk in the Main Clubhouse. Sign up — we need help. We go out into the Pass Area and receive help from the businesses by way of donations and gifts. We publish a magazine listing the business donors. We hope that our residents patronize the businesses and purchase the products. Some of their donations become prizes at events or are sold at an auction. Our community is to be commended for all of the work that is done for the benefit of the Pass Area. We are the largest gated complex in the Pass Area and we live up to our reputation of being generous and kind to our neighbors. Each and every one of you volunteering your time and energy during Charity Week deserves a big "THANK YOU!" DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly 6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2016 | Watering in the Spring Tree Policies Focus on the root zone. Remember that it's the roots that need access to water, not the leaves. Wetting the foliage can promote the spread of diseases and mold. Water in the morning, beginning an hour or so before sunrise, up until around 8 am. Watering early ensures that the water soaks into the soil rather than evaporating, giving you the most bang for your buck. Water deeply and thoroughly. Lawns and annuals concentrate their roots in the top 6 inches of soil; for perennials, shrubs and trees, it's the top 12 inches. Push a spade or a long screwdriver into the soil near your plant and pull it back to see how the soil looks. If it feels moist to a depth of 6 to 12 inches, you're in good shape. If it's bone dry, water! Check your sprinkler system frequently and adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street. A special reminder: The City of Banning's Water Department has issued the following watering schedule for all residents living in the City of Banning. • Residents with even-numbered street addresses shall water only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday • Residents with odd-numbered street addresses shall water only on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday We hope you find these tips helpful. ~ Mark Schleiden, Director of Operations Spring is a time of renewal in nature and many of the homes in our community would benefit from a "renewed" coat of paint to the exterior trim or stucco. Before you get started, please remember that an application must be submitted and approved prior to painting even when using the existing colors of the home. In Article VII, Section 7.22 the Sun Lakes Rules and Regulations state: All painting must be approved. The Master Architectural Committee has developed approved color palettes for the exterior colors for the home in Sun Lakes Country Club Homeowners Association. The approved colors have been mounted in frames and are available for viewing and comments at the Administration Office. Prior to any painting, a Home Improvement Application must be submitted to the Master Architectural Committee showing proposed areas to be painted, with color samples attached. Applications can be obtained on the Sun Lakes website at www.sunlakescc. com or in the Administration Office. The Planning and Compliance Department is here to help if you have any questions or need assistance with this process; please contact Etanisla Lopez-Ortiz at (951) 769-6647 or by email Etanisla.lopez- ortiz@associa.us. ~ Heather Killian, Planning and Compliance Manager COFFEE WITH THE EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER Have you had the opportunity to meet Jeremy Wilson, Executive General Manager?
