After taking the course, you may even be eligible for a discount on your car insurance! (Participants should consult their auto insurance agent for details). An AARP Smart Driver Course is Tues., April 26, 12:30 5 pm at the South Clubhouse. YOU MUST HAVE COMPLETED EITHER THE 8 HOUR OR 4 HOUR COURSE WITHIN THE LAST 3 YEARS TO QUALIFY FOR THIS CLASS. The classroom course costs $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Space is limited, so register early at the Main Clubhouse starting April 1. Every year for the past 24 years, EPAP, Sun Lakes Emergency Preparedness Organization has conducted a vital disaster drill. The drill simulates a potential and probable natural or man made disaster that allows EPAP personnel to practice and sharpen their injury and life saving skills. The drill continues to be a valuable learning experience for EPAP's Medical, Communications, and Animal Rescue Units and all the other supporting units. The scenario for the May 27 drill is as follows: At 12:42 pm on Fri., May 27, the Pass area has suffered a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on the San Andreas fault approximately three miles North of the Sun Lakes Country Club. The temperature is around 80 degrees with a three mile per hour breeze from the northeast. Traffic on Highland Springs Avenue is congested but flowing. The freeway over-crossing at Sunset Avenue has collapsed causing highway damage on the I-10. Two trucks carrying liquefied ammonia have crashed into the rubble and their tanks have ruptured causing an ammonia vapor cloud over the northeast corner of Sun Lakes. Highway 79 is closed due to landslides. Sundance, Central, and Hoffer Elementary Schools, the Susan B. Coombs Middle School and stores in the Second Street Market Place Shopping Center have reported injuries and structural damage. All local emergency services are committed to search and rescue operations at those locations. There have been numerous reports of property damage and injuries within Sun Lakes. Electrical and telephone services also have been interrupted, and traffic signals are inoperative. Sun Lakes EOC has been activated and is responding to requests from districts for assistance with their injuries. This scenario is quite realistic and will again afford EPAP personnel the opportunity to practice and sharpen their skills when, not if, a disaster occurs. Your EPAP zone captains can help with your questions should you require more information. Important: it is imperative and vital to the overall success of the drill that all residents utilize the little orange or yellow cards that signal one's safety or injury. When placed on a street facing window, the card signals that all is well inside the house. No visible card indicates an injury. This simple procedure has been ignored in past years by too many residents. In an actual disaster the display of the card or its absence can speed up or delay rescue operations. Practicing its use during a drill will be a reminder to display or not display when disaster strikes. Cards are available at the Reception Desk in the Main Clubhouse. EPAP 2016 DISASTER DRILL SET FOR FRI., MAY 27 We would like to send a big thank you to the residents who have already completed their age survey form! We really appreciate that you returned the form to us so quickly! We are estimating that we have received approximately 1,500 forms so far. With this recertification, Sun Lakes Country Club needs to prove that 80 percent of the community is 55 years of age and older. We still have a long way to go to get to the 80 percent, so please continue to send in your forms and encourage your friends and neighbors to do so as well. The age survey was included with your February Lifestyles, however if you need to pick up another copy it can be found in the Administration Office, the Main Clubhouse reception desk, or printed from our Sun Lakes website (www.sunlakescc.com). This piece of paper needs to be filled out for EACH person that lives in the home and returned to the Main Clubhouse reception desk or the administration office. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call the administration office at 769-6649. We thank all of the residents in advance for your time and effort in getting this document to us! ~ Administration Office AGE SURVEY REQUIREMENT
