Performing Arts, formely Oak Valley Music Academy, is pleased to announce the addition of a theatre program and new studio space. Willi Rose & Co. Theater Academy opens this week for acting lessons. The Theatre Academy will offer a variety of acting classes for students of all ages and ability levels. There are group classes and individual private acting lessons available. Willi Rose & Co. was founded by Willi Rose in July, 2008. They offer classes in voice, piano and countless musical instruments. The studio is staffed by a dozen established instructors with varying specialties. Drama has been offered through the music studio for several months. A dance program is in development for the very near future. "I've wanted to include theatre and dance in my business for years. Finding Mia Mercado has given us the impetus to fulfill that desire," Rose said. Mercado, Theatre Program Director, has been teaching private acting students at the academy since September 2015. She has over 30 years preforming and directing in community theatre and running children's theatre programs. "When the opportunity came, I jumped at the chance to expand our offerings. I can't wait to see where we go from here. I want to teach the basics, but also create classes for every age and ability level. Silly Sessions is just one of the non-traditional classes offered, great for getting in laughs, being playful, physical, and using your imagination, freeing up life's stresses," Mercado said. "I'm personally very excited about the theatre program since we all have the desire to see what it's like to portray other characters. Now we have the chance to explore. We needed a local acting program. Here it is on a silver platter," Rose said. Currently there are no dedicated acting programs available in Yucaipa. A Children's Theatre Summer Camp is also in the planning stages Mercado added, with lessons in acting, dance, voice and technical artistry. "Working in a tight-knit community makes me proud. It is important we continue to educate and enrich lives of those around us with the arts. My hope is to build a confident generation of creators and innovators, grow an audience of arts supporters, and provoke a compassionate understanding of human nature through artistic expression," Mercado said. Located in the Yucaipa Plaza across fromYucaipa High School at 32999 Yucaipa Blvd., Suite 117, Willi Rose & Co. Performing Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday. A complete schedule of classes is available at the their website, www.oakvalleymusicacademy. com. Registration is handled through the receptionist, Suite 106. Information, (909) 90-0011.
