14 | OCEAN HILLS NEWS | APRIL 2016 | Well… it is going to happen. There WILL be a spring concert at 2 pm on May 22 in Abravanel Hall and directed with only one hand… most likely, You just cannot keep our director down and the choir members are ecstatic! We all know the value of singing with a group and this group is the BEST. There are no auditions but we all have fun. Group singing is the most exhilarating and transformative of all. It takes something incredibly intimate, a sound that begins inside you, shares it with a room full of people and it comes back as something even more thrilling: harmony. Researchers are beginning to discover that singing is like an infusion of the perfect tranquilizer, the kind that both soothes your nerves and elevates your spirits. The Ocean Hills Chorale is a great example of the perfect tranquilizer. Come to our (always free) concert, sing along with us and you will have the same experience as we take you on a "Sentimental Journey." Choral Society Theatre Arts members enjoyed a wonderful production of Urinetown on March 13, followed by a lovely dinner at Hunter's Steakhouse. We hope to do another similar event in the future. On April 4, we will host a ballet performance from the Academy of Classical Ballet. We are very excited about presenting this very talented ballet group on our stage. The May 2 meeting will feature the piano stylings of Jacquelyne Silver. We are very excited to present this entertainment to you. Join dynamic pianist and stage personality Jacquelyne Silver as she takes you on a musical and historical journey not to be missed! You will thrill to the music and lyrics of your favorite shows — from Show Boat to Phantom of the Opera, from Fiddler on the Roof to My Fair Lady and much more — Miss Silver will present them with her inimitable combination of wit, warmth and communication. She will weave a breathtaking tapestry of America's magnificent legacy, and will include some "backstage" stories of her work with some of the splendid Broadway performers and composers, such as Leonard Bernstein and Richard Rodgers. Put the date on your calendars! Coming soon… Theatre Arts presents, How the Other Half Loves, a hilarious comedy/farce by Alan Ayckbourn, on Thurs., April 21, at 7 pm and Sat., April 23, at 2 pm in Abravanel Hall. Please note, performance dates have been adjusted due to the Passover holiday. The production is directed by Al Valletta and produced by Lois Powazek. Our featured performers are Lyle Bergeson, Valerie Thompson, Keith Russell, Mona Miller, Frank Dowling, and, new to our stage, Anne Sage. Tickets will be available for members at our April 4 meeting; doors open at 6:30 pm. Tickets will be on sale on April 5 to 7, 12 to 14, and 19 to 20, from 10 am to 1 pm in the Hall for $12 each, and at the door before performances. Mark your calendars! Theatre Arts Spring Concert
