Birdwatchers
The next Birdwatchers Club meeting,
held in the Ladies Club Room, will be
Tues., May 24 at 1 pm. There is no meeting
in April.
Join us on Tues., April 12, for a bird walk
at Los Jilgueros Preserve in Fallbrook. Los
Jilgueros is a small scenic Preserve located on the
south side of Fallbrook. It has a network of trails which
will take you by ponds, freshwater marshland, trees and fields. You
will see wildflowers and a variety of birds as we walk the relatively
flat dirt pathways.
Meet at the overflow parking lot Tues., April 12 at 7:45 am for
an 8 am departure. We will coordinate carpools and provide travel
directions that morning. The destination is about a 45 minute drive.
Bring binoculars, cameras, walking shoes, water, hats and sunscreen.
There are no restrooms on site. We will stop at Garden Center Cafe
and Grill in Fallbrook for lunch afterward. As a courtesy, carpoolers
should make an appropriate donation for travel expenses to their
driver.
We need one or two more bluebird monitors. Our club monitors
12 bluebird nesting boxes located on the golf course. Each volunteer
checks one of the nesting boxes to track the
birds, eggs and babies throughout the nesting
period. Contact Jerry Hollander at (760) 945-
1899.
The Birdwatchers Club website is a good place
to review past and upcoming bird walks, bird lists,
photos, meeting minutes and general information.
There is also a nice article about binoculars under "links" in
our website. This will be of help if you are buying binoculars and
want to know more about the choices… 8 or 10 power x 42 are
typical for birding. www.dtravis2.wix.com/birdwatchers or go thru
the OHCC web site link.
For those of you that would like to receive a photo of the day or
week, we have two members that take wonderful bird photos. Ann
Baldwin would send out a few a week. Contact her at waxart@
sbcglobal.net to request being on her distribution list. Ray Spencer
has been doing a shot of the day for several years. To be on his
distribution list, contact him at spencerhud@aol.com.
As of March 15, anyone that was not current with their dues has
been dropped from the e-mail announcements. You may leave a
check for your $8 dues at the Clubhouse Front Desk.
