| OCEAN HILLS NEWS | APRIL 2016 |19 By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director So how do you like the The News so far? They say "change is good for the soul," and this publication continues to make improvements making it easier to navigate and more appealing to the eye. The cover invites the reader to experience the paradise that so many of our residents call home. The Osher Lifelong Learning program, also known as OLLI, continues to progress with great enthusiasm. Two lectures are planned for this month: April 2, "Origins and Evolution of Jazz" with a live presenter, Mary Talbot and April 16, "The Supreme Court's 2015-2016 Term" with Professor Glenn Smith. The lectures will be held in the Mykonos Room at 10 am on Saturdays. Rancho Buena Vista High School has planned an afternoon concert celebrating Mother's Day on Thurs., May 5 at 4 pm in the Hall. The Recreation Department will provide an afternoon tea with lady fingers for all those who attend. If you have a favorite tea cup, please bring it. Get that pinky finger in condition and all moms who attend will receive a carnation. We look forward to supporting the local high school in their performance to our community. No charge for those in attendance. Just a reminder, the Clubhouse is the Lost and Found. It seems the sunglasses, the water bottles and the sweatshirts are piling up. It is always surprising that we have such a large collection of keys. Question: How do they start their car or get back in their house? There continues to be some turnover within the staff at the Clubhouse. Sandra Fiore, known fondly as "Sandy," has finally retired for the second time. She came to OHCC 14 years ago, after she retired from hospital administration in Michigan. Sandy worked at the Front Desk as our Administrative Assistant and she handled all the newsletter submissions, the accounting and just about anything that came her way. We will miss her steady hand but we know she will enjoy the newest chapter in her life, as she certainly deserves it. Suggestions are always appreciated regarding bands, caterers and entertainment. This includes the current trend for hosting food trucks at local venues. Several different companies have visited the Clubhouse for events in the past and the food has been well-received. The Community Services Committee recently discussed having them visit on a regular basis. So looking forward, in the next few months, we hope to have a new company on site to provide respite from the daily grind of cooking, so stay tuned because hamburgers might be on the menu! We've all heard how "April showers bring May flowers." You may know the old song about "though April showers may come your way, they bring the flowers that bloom in May." You may even know the old grade school riddle: "If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?" Answer: "Pilgrims." Recreation News
