FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2016 47 Six vehicles went on the Red Canyon Trail for our March trip. We exited Hwy. 111 and followed the Coachella Canal to the head of the Bradshaw Trail. We stopped for a photo op at the abandoned Kaiser rail trestle. We continued on the Bradshaw Trail to Red Canyon Trail. The trail was smooth, although there were some steep sections. The trail undulated along the ridge top, which was very narrow in places with dizzying drops on both sides. And there were many blind crests along the trail. Many of them hid abrupt changes of direction, and there was little margin for error. The trail crossed many small washes and the deep gully at the head of Red Canyon. From here the trail ran close to the rim as it traveled a vehicle corridor through the Orocopia Mountain Wilderness. We exited at the Chiriaco Summit on I-10. We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant at the Summit. Some of us then toured the George Patton Museum. If you are interested in learning more about this group, please join us for our meeting which is held the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm at the Lodge. Our monthly trip is usually the third Thursday of every month. We meet in the north parking lot of the Lodge at 8 am. Anyone who has a four-wheel drive vehicle is welcome. Most of the trips are on State service trails designated as four-wheel drive. We do not do extreme off-roading (most of the time). If you have any questions call Bob Cooper at (951) 769-6352 or Steve Kenyon at (951) 660-1366. ~ Bob Cooper 4x4 Seasons Left: The group at the abandoned Kaiser rail trestle Below: The desert in bloom
