The perspective of the Artist of the Month Alexandria Vanhoose: My art adventure began over two years ago when my neighbor asked if I would like to join an art class. First of all, I had never drawn anything worth mentioning and had no artistic ability that could be seen by the naked eye. Being a brave person, I signed up. Creating art was very foreign and intimidating. Fear of the unknown is what it's called. My first drawing was supposed to be a tree, but when I finished it looked like a beehive. I used the eraser more than the pencil and we became very good friends. I started drawing with graphite pencils, then colored pencils and now water color pencils. Wow, what improvement! To me, art is about freedom and joy to express on paper the things you have interest in. Now I would like to say a few things about my teacher, Rob. He really puts up with a lot. Personally, I don't know how he does it but Rob loves art and is a wonderful teacher. He teaches the basic foundation steps a beginner needs for drawing ideas and the correct tools to use and different techniques. He is very understanding but firm, and his bottom line approach really appeals to me. Rob also has advanced students in his classes. When I see their artwork it really inspires me to be better. I have a lot of fun and hope to continue drawing for a long time. Classes are Mondays 10 am-12 noon and/or Wednesdays 6-8pm. Any questions, call Rob Kelman, (951) 992-9156 or (602) 571-0414. ~ Rob Kelman FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2016 35 Wow! We are almost halfway through our "A Godly Woman Is…" study guide for the year, and it's only May. In April we discussed what it means for a woman to be noble, and learned some very enlightening and beautiful truths. We then talked about what it means to have peace, where we get it, how we get it and why it is so important to us today. We then began the subject of being prepared: why the Bible encourages us to be prepared, what to prepare for and how to prepare. In May our topics will be "A Godly Woman is a Sojourner," what that means, how we apply it to our lives, and what the Bible says about the subject. We will finish May with three lessons on repentance: what the Bible teaches about the subject, what it means and why we are repentant. On May 6 we will hold our spring potluck luncheon. As always, all the women will enjoy the succulent dishes prepared and contributed by the members, and enjoy the fellowship and friendship this function supplies. There will be a short program following the meal, and as always, there are prizes. If any of you Four Seasons residents out there are interested in joining an amazing group of outstanding Christian women who love the Lord and His Word, please come to the card room (by the library in the Lodge) any Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:45 am and we will welcome you with open hearts. This is a non-denominational study and any translation of the Bible is welcomed. Hope to see you soon. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine "Believe…" Women's Bible Study Creative Drawing & Sketching Class Above: Work by the Artist of the Month Alexandria Vanhoose Life Guide Bible Study We are completing a study on how God helps us to grow and mature through our circumstances, and on April 5 we began a series entitled "Secrets of the Vine" at 7 pm in the Lodge Theatre. Jim Seim continues to be our facilitator throughout this series which is helping us to experience the abundant life Jesus promised. Jim is using scriptures along with video presentations; there is plenty of opportunity for discussion too. All are welcome.
