4 OUR YUCAIPA | MAY 2016 Rule #1 for living in Yucaipa By Courtney Fox Taylor I've lived here in this amazing little town for 15 years. I've made life-long friends, seen my son learn to walk, talk and now (gasp!) date. I've performed in plays and in stand-up shows for my fellow Yucaipans. I learned at the Mousley Museum that Yucaipa means Green Valley, and when you're up on one of the trails in the hills, you can really see how that is the perfect name. We were the first ones on our cul-de-sac in one of the sub- developments in Chapman Heights. Neighbors have come and gone, with only two other originals remaining. Friends have divorced, moved away and even passed. I've shopped at Vons and Stater Bros. I stick to Vons because it's closer and I'm lazy, although I think the produce is better at Stater Bros. Actually, I think the produce is probably better in the dumpster behind Stater Bros. Side note: Can we work on the quality of the produce, Vons? We were regulars at Pizza Chalet before it moved to the bank. I loved the cheese bread at the Big Cheese before it was the Home Run (or some other sports reference) then Celebrities. And I've followed the drama of Celebrities on Facebook with the rest of you. I'm still confused, but it's small town drama at its best. I like seeing uptown turn into an antique shopping destination but I hate the backing in parking spaces. A man clearly designed that nonsense. No woman would say, "Okay, when we park, we're going to stop in the middle of the road, slowly back up while everyone looks at us, judging our parking skills, then have to straighten out and try it again while other motorists roll their eyes and mutter under their breath." Whoever designed that parking style wanted to show off their backing up skill. Well, Mr. Parking Designer, you should be there so I can get out of my car and let you back it in. I hate it. In fact, I AVOID stopping on the Boulevard to shop anywhere specifically because I don't want to put on a show with my parking. It's not an event for me. I JUST WANT TO PARK. And while I'm on the subject, I have to share with you what I consider to the be the First Rule of Living in Yucaipa: Don't Cut in Front of Other Cars Who Are Waiting to Get on the Westbound 1-10 Freeway Going Toward Redlands. The penalty for breaking this rule is me yelling curse words at you in front of my son for 15 years and jeopardizing my Mother of the Year title. Please don't let that happen. If you need visual aids, please refer to the photos below. Thank you Google Maps for your cooperation in this matter, and thank you Yucaipans for waiting in line like a responsible member of the human race and not some %$!! $(%##%& of a %$#&!!! Exclusive Auto If you are going to be getting on the I-10 westbound, this is the point at which you need to be in the RIGHT HAND LANE. These cars are lined up waiting their turn like human beings But what's this guy doing???? He's zoomed to the front of the left hand lane! If he zips in front of the line I will have to yell %@!*&^&%&! in front of children.
