| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2016 | 47 Pickleball Club The Spring Tournament is history. However, this article was written the first week in May and the winners of the AA, A, and B Leagues had not been declared — winners announced next month! If you have not yet entered your team for the Summer Tournament, you need to get to it; teams have to be in by 5 om, June 3. Play begins the week of June 13. As always, we adjust the starting times to, hopefully, adjust to the weather. Summer Tournament hours are 5, 6, 7 and 8 pm. Entries go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. There is a box at the door. If you are new or have changed your personnel, you need to fill out the card you will find on the shelf in the bocce shed. It is helpful if you include all info and monies in one envelope! As most of you know, dues to belong to the Bocce Club are $12 for the year, whether you join now or in January. Each tournament you play costs $3 pp, which monies are given back to the Leagues' winners in the form of gift certificates to our restaurant. Some teams opt out for the summer. That's too bad. It's cooler in the evening and players are only on the courts for one hour — how hard can that be?! If possible please continue to make Thursday one of your choices because we do not know how many teams will sign up! Get out and enjoy your fellow bocce players! See you on the courts! Friends of Bocce Spring continues to beckon active adults to get outdoors for fun and exercise. If you haven't tried Pickleball on our lighted courts, c'mon out! Afternoons and evenings are great times for casual family play if your grandkids are visiting. The club can loan balls and paddles for such occasions, so just call one of the officers below or corral any member during the week. We are seeing many new players giving the game a try. April's tournament was won by Elmer King who led a lively contingent of the club's finest. Congratulations, champ! If you aren't familiar with the game, check it out on-line at pickleball.com. There are great YouTube videos as well, that allow you to see how the pros play the game. To see how the rest of us do it, drop by the courts some morning. If you have questions, call club president Royce Newman at 769-1103 or vice-president Hank Huisman at (712) 540-0864. See you on the courts! Table Tennis/Ping Pong Good exercise! A fun activity! Great people! That's what you'll find with us. Haven't played since you were a kid? Doesn't matter… we have players of all skill levels. We play Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4 - 6 pm, and Sat., 10 am - 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (normally). See the Events Board across from the Main Clubhouse Reception Desk for more information.
