| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2016 | 55 Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays through Saturdays. We normally 'pea' for partners at noon, then play to 2 pm or so. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four at 9 am and the other four at 1 pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of fierce-but-friendly competition, come watch us play. Info., Steve Felber, 769-6898 (snfelber@yahoo.com). Pop Tennis April and May activities were so much fun and several new players are now on board as a result of our great clinic held March 24. The April Spring Clinic/Mixer was a huge success. To spite the inclement weather, we had a great turnout! On April 9, we held a clinic for players of all skill levels, with great instructions provided by our own pro members Pat and Michelle Carter and Tracy Galongo. Our April 10 event was simply an informal mixer of play with donuts provided by Co-President Jeanne McGuire. Our BBQ event Sunday was a BYOB/BYOF so everyone brought what they wanted to eat or BBQ, along with their beverages. We were fortunate to have some great community dishes provided by Carol Tasko, who brought an incredible apple cake dessert, and Carol Daniels, who prepared a delicious crockpot of baked beans. The highlight event of the evening was a fun-filled raffle, which included some high-end items donated by our friends from Drop Shot Sports, and a new hybrid XTP POP paddle provided by club member Nick Arico. Additionally, some of our members made great contributions for raffle items as well. Special thanks to Karl Tasko for the incredible home-crafted birdhouse. Club member, Michael Stone, provided one of the most sought-after items: a specially designed and logoed SLCC POP Tennis Club shirt which was won by Sally Wolfe. A very special "thank you" goes to our friend Roberto Donati, owner of Drop Shot Sports, with his donation of a Pacific Pro 2 paddle, which was won by Michelle Carter. Additionally, Drop Shop donated a beautiful POP Tennis Bag, which was won by Tracy Galongo's father, Dick Senior, who happily gave it to his daughter. Not only did Drop Shot donate these wonderful items for our raffle, but they also gifted us with one of their new hybrid paddles for use for our new players. Most importantly, our thanks to our good friend Ken Linder, President of the US POP Tennis Association, for getting in touch with his friend and fellow POP tennis player at Drop Shot Sports and making this all happen for us! POP Tennis is played Mon., Wed., Sat. at 10 am and Tue., Thurs., Fri. at 8 am and Tues./ Thurs. at 6 pm. Sunday is Open play for POP, Paddle and Pickleball. Paddles are provided. Please no perfume/colognes on the courts to accommodate our friends with allergies! Info., Jeannie McGuire, 845-8817 or Sally Wolfe, 263-5908.
