Our newly elected officers are beginning to settle in. If they haven't served before, there is a learning curve to go through before they are comfortable in their new job. We have elected three to the Board of Directors and 44 Delegates and Alternate Delegates. We did not have candidates for Delegate of District 1 or an Alternate Delegate for District 22. We sincerely hope that someone steps up and volunteers for these positions. From some of the questions received lately, it is apparent most people do not know the profile of the duties of a District Delegate. One of the most important obligations is to listen to their residents. The Delegate has become the liaison between the Board of Directors and staff and the residents in their district. It has been said the Delegate is the eyes and ears of the Board. They disseminate information to all of the residents in their district from the Board and staff. They assist the residents when direction or answers are needed. There are newsletters to be published, events to be planned, meetings to attend whereby the Delegate represents you, the homeowner, so you have a well- informed and happy life at Sun Lakes. The fun part of the job is getting help. Finding an Alternate Delegate to assist and filling out their staff with Zone Captains, EPAP staff and a medical group. It is a great feeling to have the help of some of your residents. You depend upon them to plan meetings, organize dinners or parties, particularly during the holidays. In March of each year, the Delegates submit their calendars of events for the following year. They work with the staff planning locations for the event, with food service, hiring entertainment so the residents will enjoy the evening. There is a monthly meeting of the District Delegate Assembly where all of the Delegates convene and discuss a variety of topics. The Assembly is the official group to make recommendations to the Board of Directors for governing our HOA. The importance of the monthly meeting is enhanced by the attendance of the Board of Directors and staff members. It is an open meeting, usually attended by many of our residents. The meeting time and date is the second Thursday of each month, at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Residents participate by entering the discussions and asking questions. You are invited to attend. Hope to see you at our next meeting. Slugs and snails, attracted to the yeast in beer, crawl in and drown; or Coarse Sand, Gravel, or Hazelnut Shells – Apply sand, gravel or shells in trails around roses, or flowerbeds.
