| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | June 2016 | 13 Landscape Committee The overall appearance of the community continues to improve, Artistic Maintenance Landscape has been working in our community for only six months and the appearance is very impressive. We have received many compliments from both residents and visitors alike. Artistic has installed new "smart controllers" which enable us to manage the water used for our irrigation. The latest water bills from EMWD indicate that our water usage is now in complete compliance. It has benefited us to investigate all avenues of water conservation. We have a meeting scheduled with EMWD in June to explore the possibility of extending the use of recycled water even further (beyond Four Season and World Cup). The use of recycled water, which had already been set up and running (thank you again to the Four Seasons Facilities Committee), helped immensely during the worst drought period last year. By the time of this reading the patio construction will be completed. Even during the construction period, Artistic maintained the patio landscaping, which wasn't directly affected by the work being done. They will quickly repair the damaged areas. It will certainly be a beautiful transformation for us all to enjoy. Architectural Committee YARD MAINTENANCE Keeping your yard looking good requires little work if you tackle it once a week or at least every other week. The ARC may have approved your landscape plans but you still must maintain your plantings. As summer begins those spring blooms can overpower your garden. Pruning keeps the plants healthy and stimulates new growth. Don't be afraid to cut them back. Solar Alert - All solar panel projects need ARC approval before installation. Some sales people are telling owners that they can start work in a week or two. NO - NO. The ARC meets on the first and third Mon of the month. Once you submit your application with plans (by Wednesday prior to the next meeting) the ARC may have questions. Though we cannot disapprove solar projects, the ARC can set guidelines that must be followed; you must wait for approval to begin your project. NOTE: The two most common errors are: 1. Inverter must be in garage, and 2. Conduit (wiring) cannot run across the roof; it must be in the attic or under the eaves of the house. ITEMS TO CHECK WHEN GROOMING YOUR YARD 1. Check the watering system. Bubblers, soakers, drip lines and sprinklers may need adjusting or replacing. 2. Keep all rock material at least 8 - 12 inches away from the planter stock. Put mulch around the stock. 3. If you have trouble pulling the weeds, spray them with weed killer. Many sprays kill the weeds but protect the lawn. 4. Feed plants every 2- 3 weeks, lawns once a month. 5. All plants need watering 2 - 3 times a week. Lawns need water 2 times a week so the do not die. Check your water bill, if you're under budget, you can water more often. 6. Prune trees. Cut off excess branches to improve the shape and health of the tree. Community Awareness Committee Busy times, busy people! Thank you to our New Board President, Greg Rockvam, New Director, Don Ortega and of course, Director Gene Hickel for attending our meeting. Although El Niño hasn't shown its face — mosquitoes have! We urge you to watch for standing water in your patios and yards and use repellent! Don't forget your four-legged critters need protection, too! We will be working with the Golf Course and Vector Control to develop a course of protective action. Another big "Thank You" to those that attended the Measure "E" town hall meeting. There is a bit of misinformation buzzing around and it's important to know the facts of the Measure. There are information sheets at the Lodge available for you. And if you like, please call me at (951) 760-2200. Let's don't use Nextdoor to banter this subject. If you do not choose to vote by mail, your polling place is at Tahquitz High School on Cawston. As always, if you would like to join us or have an issue for discussion, our meetings are the first Monday of the month in the Board Room at the Lodge.
