12 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | June 2016 | June's Tip: Preparedness and Safety is really everybody's business. Naval Aviation has a saying: "Complacency Kills!" Don't let complacency or procrastination threaten your life or the lives of those you hold dear. The worst time to think about safety is while things have already become unsafe, and the worst time to prepare for something is when you find yourself embroiled in an emergency. Last month's article dealt with some of the organization resources we have here at Four Seasons concerned with our community's emergency preparedness, namely: Neighborhood Watch, Street Captains, our Community Emergency Response Teams (C.E.R.T.), and Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC). These are all staffed by volunteers! Again, "If you see something, say something!" When you do, call BOTH security roving patrol (951) 202-4603 and the Hemet Police Department (951) 765-2400. Please note that while this is a Seniors' Community, it is not a Senior Care Community! Each individual and household is responsible for their own personal arrangements for preparedness, safety, and care. DO NOT EXPECT OTHERS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR MEDICAL, SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, FOOD, OR WATER NEEDS! The most important preparations you need to make are the following: 1. A (up-to-date) medical emergency information form including health issues, present medications, and emergency contact information-and placed in an easy to locate spot (top of refrigerator, posted on door going into garage, or on inside of medicine cabinet door); 2. A one-month supply of critical medications (rotate to keep current); 3. A two-week supply of food and water per person (calories of food, and quantity of drinking water varies per person, so see web sites, or visit our meetings for more specifics!); 4. Shoes and flashlight (with extra batteries) easily accessible by bed; 5. Two, or more, fire extinguishers (bedroom and kitchen accessible) and smoke/CO2 alarms checked and ready; 6. For pet owners, don't forget ample supply of any special meds and food! There is so much more that can, and should, be done, but this is a great start! For more information and training, please attend our Preparedness and Safety Meetings (used to be called Street Captains Meeting). Everyone is invited to attend these meetings held at the Lodge on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 pm. The EPC (Emergency Preparedness Committee) is sponsored by the HOA and provides development and direction to our emergency response plans and activities. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend meetings held at the Lodge on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 pm. We have presentations and training by Woody Lane, Sharon Schneider, Bud Piraino, Bob Hagen and Larry and Sharyn Hawkins. Emergency Preparedness Committee
