30 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | June 2016 | From the President – Dave Cometa: Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club honors and gives thanks to the Men and Women who gave their all for us. I know many of you won't believe me, but there is more to life then golf. Yes golf is a great game, but in light of what has been given to us by the men and women of our Armed Forces missing a 3 foot putt is really not a big deal. We are so blessed to be living here at Four Seasons and to have the freedom to play this Great Game of Golf right out our back door. However, this blessing and freedom has come at a great price for many men and women who have given their lives for us. I'm sure that all of us at Four Seasons give thanks to them and not just to the fallen but to all of you who are still with us that have served this nation with honor to keep us free, so we say THANKS. Stand tall and with Honor, you deserve it!! Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the US military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. For more information contact Elliot Yaeger at ey1611@gmail.com or (951) 223-3735. From the Handicap Chair – Lynn Smith: To all golfers, posting scores in person immediately following the round at the course where the round is played is the preferred way to expose scores to your peer review. This method of posting must be used whenever possible. The place for returning scores from all courses should be convenient to make it as easy as possible for players to record every round played. The form of reporting is the responsibility of the golf club or the authorized golf association, and will depend upon the procedure adopted by the Handicap Committee. The posted scores for the day must be immediately available to all members for peer review. If a player fails to post a score, the Handicap Committee may post the score without the player's authorization. The committee must notify the players that it will post the scores in order to prevent scores from being posted by both the player and the committee. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: By hitting a provisional ball you save time if there is a possibility that your original ball is out of bounds or lost, not in a water hazard. You must declare that you are hitting a provisional ball before you hit the ball or it cannot be considered a provisional. If your original ball is found and is not out of bounds you must play the original ball, even if you consider the original ball unplayable. Your relief for the unplayable ball is dropping within two club lengths no closer to the hole with a penalty of one stroke, hitting from a point on the line from the hole through the ball no closer to the hole with a penalty of one stroke, or stroke and distance hitting from where the original ball was hit. The provisional ball cannot be used because the rule states that it can only be used if the original ball is lost or out of bounds.
