| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2016 | 53
PLAYING IN THE HEAT Tennis is a sport that requires players
to sustain quick, running movements. Here in Sun Lakes, tennis
players are susceptible to dehydration very easy. Because of this,
tennis players need to ensure they are eating the right foods and
staying hydrated so that they can avoid dehydration and heat illness.
Hydration tips before players hit the court:
• Limit/avoid caffeinated beverages (iced teas, coffee, colas)
especially right before and after match play. These may
cause additional fluid loss as urine.
• The night before, fill and chill squeeze bottles or sports jugs
and bring to the courts. Each player should have a minimum
of 2 liters available courtside.
• Continue to consume enough fluids throughout the day.
• Drink 17 to 20 oz. of fluid within 2 hours pre-match/play.
