| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2016 | 55 Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays through Saturdays. We normally 'pea' for partners at noon, then play to 2 pm or so. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four at 9 am and the other four at 1 pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of fierce-but-friendly competition, come watch us play. Info., Steve Felber, 769-6898 (snfelber@yahoo.com). Pop Tennis We are excited to see the response to the publicity of how our sport is now being recognized as the "Sport of all Ages" and receiving national recognition. A Southern California movement, spearheaded by Ken Lindner, President of the USPTA, has re-named and re-branded the sport of Paddle Tennis as POP Tennis — as in Pop Culture, Pop Entertainment, Pop Art, etc. The goal of this passionate Southern California movement is to make POP Tennis a national and international sport, and hopefully, one day, an Olympic sport. Our Sun Lakes players are totally on board with this movement and excited to be a part of this effort. We totally support Ken and are honored to be recognized for supporting their effort! We are particularly proud of the results we received from the SLCC Activities Day event and Clinic which has brought in so many new members. Our membership now exceeds 80+ members and is still growing. Our summer months will be limited in organized events and more about just fun play days. If you are new to Sun Lakes and want to find a good fit for some great exercise and meet and make new friends, we encourage you to come down to the courts and see what POP tennis is all about. We welcome your visiting friends and relatives to join us too. Paddles are available for loan and please wear sneakers which won't leave black marks on the courts. Scheduled days of play are Mon. Wed, Sat. at 10 am & Tues., Thurs., Fri., at 7 am and Tues. & Thurs.evenings at 6 pm. Sunday play starts at 8 am and is open play for all residents of Sun Lakes for all games! Please – no perfume/cologne to help our players with allergies. Check out the bulletin board by the courts for events or call Jeanne McGuire for additional information at 845-8817.
