68 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2016 | Darlene Hibbs passed to our Lord May 18, 2016 in Banning, CA. She had been living in Sun Lakes for the past four years. She was born March 3, 1935 in New York. She moved to California at a very early age and was given dancing lessons by a Danish family. She was a stand-in for Shirley Temple at the age of 6. She was married and lived in La Mirada and raised three children. Her husband and oldest son predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter Kath and her son Kevin. She attended the Fellowship in the Pass Church. Larry Liebers passed away on April 11, 2016 at the age of 90, after a two-year battle with multiple myeloma and its complications. In 1990, he and his wife Annie, along with two other couples, put their names in the Sun Lakes lottery and all got lots and homes within a block of each other. That's when his life got busier and the fun started… For every year thereafter, Larry was involved with the Sun Lakes Drama Club, enjoying his new role as an actor and serving on their Board. He was on the Board of The Friendship Club and created their publicity posters for many years. He played tennis, golf and ping pong. He also was a talented artist. He was engaged in Men's Discussion Groups and was a member of every dance club in Sun Lakes as well as the Yiddish Culture Club. Larry married his wife, Annie, in 1948 and they had over six wonderful decades together. When she became ill, he was her caretaker. Most recently he was the co-facilitator of the Memory Club, which was especially dear to him as he had lost his wife, Annie, to Alzheimer's Disease. Larry lived life to the fullest and loved Sun Lakes, with all of its activities and wonderful people. He was born in Chicago on December 15, 1925, but came to Los Angeles as a teenager. He was a great athlete, a football star and was very popular. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles, then went directly into the Navy in WWII, where he served in the Pacific. After the Navy he went to college and became an elementary school teacher. Later he earned his Masters Degree in Education. After a few years he advanced to administration and spent most of his career developing and improving the curriculum for the first Alternative Continuation school in Montebello, where he served as Principal until his retirement at the age of 55. He also was a licensed school psychologist and after moving to Sun Lakes, he was hired by several school districts in that capacity. He had three children, Steven, Nancy and Michelle. He is survived by his son, Steven, daughter, Michelle, and 31 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Larry's intelligence, kind and charming manner, great sense of humor, gift of gab, love of life, fascination with the exploration of ideas, his genuine interest in his many good friends and family and his ability to make the people he cared about feel good, made a difference in the lives of everyone lucky enough to have known him. He is missed and will not be forgotten. Jeanne Marie Starr danced into heaven on May 19, 2016. For the last 15 years, of her 88 years here on earth, she lived in Sun Lakes. She retired as one of the top merchant banking representatives for First Interstate Bank. Jeanne and Don lived in Pacific Beach, San Diego for 30 years before retiring to Sun Lakes. They had visited friends here many times and just had to join the fun. Jeanne was pre-deceased by Don in 2010.
