July 1st already, half of the year is over and we can't remember to write "2016." A short time ago we had two happenings — one "good news," the other "bad news." The bad news is that you are stuck with me for a couple of more years. Obviously I was elected as Delegate (no one wants the job) and then the Delegate Assembly re-elected me as their Chairperson. Hence, I am still writing the monthly articles in the Lifestyles Magazine. Help me out by sending me topics to research and write about, items in which most of our residents might have an interest. The good news is that our community came through as the "champs" they are and made our Charity Week a huge success. Sun Lakers are the most generous people in southern California, particularly when they know the money they spend stays in the Pass Area. The shows staged by the Tennis group and the Bocce Ball group were great and appreciated by everyone who was lucky enough to attend the competitions. The golf tournaments and the Pitch & Putt contest were well attended and everyone had a wonderful time trying to show off their talents. The Monster Tournament on the Executive Course was hilarious, you could hear the moans and groans as the different foursomes approached the tee and viewed their next encounter with the impossible layout they had to play. The mob scene at the Pancake Breakfast was expected and lived up to its past history. You received more than enough food and then you sat around and gabbed waiting for the Ball Drop from the helicopter. The following day the Ballroom was filled with ladies for the Fashion Show of the year. The food was great and the clothes were even greater. On Friday night the Music, Appetizers/Wine event was well attended. It was followed by the fireworks display. At the same time, in the Ballroom, the gaming tables of Craps, Roulette and Blackjack were active with residents trying to win tickets for wonderful prizes. On the previous night at the Farm House Restaurant there was a Texas Hold 'em Tournament . As you read about the different events above, think about all of the volunteers it takes to stage the venues. YOU KNOW WHAT? They are all Sun Lakers working hard so the residents could enjoy the fun. The bottom line? All of the volunteers and all of the participants offering their time and money for their fellow needy citizens in the Pass Area. IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT! CONGRATULATIONS SUN LAKERS, YOUR HEARTS ARE LARGE, YOUR GOALS ARE WORTHY CAUSES! DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly 6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2016 | Your Lawn and Water Restrictions TAKING STEPS FOR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY Walking is good for your health, but before you head out on foot for a stroll, there are important safety tips to remember. Whenever you're walking, keep these tips from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention in mind: • Whenever possible, cross the street at a designated crosswalk or intersection. • Increase your visibility at night by carrying a flashlight and wearing retro-reflective clothing. • It's safest to walk on a sidewalk, but if one is not available, walk on the shoulder of the road and face traffic. • Avoid distractions such as electronic devices that take your attention off the road. • Carry your cell phone for any possible emergencies. If you feel any symptoms of heat sickness, dehydration, heart attack or stroke, stop walking and dial 911 for help. • Walk dogs on short leashes: dogs can run out in to traffic if on a very long leash or trip up other walkers or bikers. Keep your pet and yourself safe by using a short leash. The Operations Department is dedicated to serving our community and our residents. It is our goal not just to maintain the grounds and landscaping so that Sun Lakes Country Club is a beautiful place to stroll, but we want it to be as safe as possible for you too. If you notice or see a sidewalk that could cause a tripping hazard and in need of repair, please contact us at 769-6644. ~ Mark Schleiden, Director of Operations As the outside temperatures heat up, many residents may notice lawns start to die and turn brown while complying with the city's current watering restrictions. Please remember that during a drought, lawns are not required to be kept green. However, the Association can require that dead plant material be removed and landscape be kept trimmed and free of weeds. For more information for current watering restrictions in the city of Banning call 922-3281 or visit http://www.ci.banning.ca.us/22/WaterWastewater. ~ Heather Killian, Planning and Compliance Manager COFFEE WITH THE EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER Have you had the opportunity to meet Jeremy Wilson, Executive General Manager?
