FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2016 21 Emergency preparedness committee On June 7, the Safety and Facilities Committee met to cover numerous items. We discussed and forwarded the following agenda items to Finance for approval then forwarded to the Board of Directors for approval and action: Lodge re-lamping proposal, changes to Bocce and Horseshoe Courts, replacement of Community Gazebos, Spa building audio upgrade, gate lock for Summit maintenance gate, upgrade portable projector, furnace and air conditioning in third section of Ballroom repair, security desk replacement at main gate, hard wire and install automate door opening for exit door at Summit (opens too slow), and mailbox repairs (keys for parcel doors). The Committee discussed for further research the following: signs at main entry gate, new chairs for RCN (still testing color and size), renovation of RCN fountain (to be reconstructed as a non- water piece), computer room tallying report for usage, lighting the area between Lodge and Spa buildings, UV lighting (Summit only) and automated systems for all pools, homeowner request for recycle bins, tint soffit windows in RCN (too much white light in the area), reupholster Card Room chairs, and research for ADA door and ADA switch for exit doors at Lodge. The Committee has finished or ordered: Furnishings for Summit Spa area, replacement of outdoor pool umbrellas, sound Boards for RCN rooms (almost completed, additional materials en route), hot water to sinks at the Summit, rolling umbrella strands, drapery cleaning machine (can also be used to clean chairs in Bistro), Ballroom ceiling repair scheduled for vendor repair, Lodge Pool chair replacement, viewing wall in Craft Room, Ballroom clock placement, Card Room door shades, mats and benches for ADA Summit stalls, audio boxes in Exercise Room, replacement of sign at the Summit (plants block the sign). The next Safety and Facilities Committee meeting will be July 5 at 9 am. Please feel free to attend the meeting or observations and input on agenda items. ~ Dennis Gray Safety & Facilities Committee "A Midsummer Night's Dream… or Nightmare?" You are awakened by a jolt. You turn on your water faucet and the water is cloudy or chocolate brown color. Don't drink it! There has been damage to a water line supplying your home. The HOA does not have a hidden water well or emergency water tank. Hopefully, you are prepared with a minimum of three gallons per person per day for cooking and drinking. Three of the blue seven-gallon containers would take care of one person for a week. Water has a definite shelf life: six months if you fill your own containers and one year if it's store bought. Your stomach is growling and your body wants to recycle the Mexican food from taco Tuesday. You receive a reverse 911 phone call telling you that there has been a sewer line break in your neighborhood. You quickly realize that this is no problem as all you really have to do is to drain the water from your toilet and line your toilet bowl with a heavy duty trash bag. This will allow you to use it a couple of times until it is filled. Then you will pull it out and replace it. Then set the bag in an extra 10 gallon trash can that you have set aside for this purpose. If you are the outdoor type you can use a sturdy five gallon plastic bucket with a seat and bag liners. Don't forget toilet tissue, alcohol hand sanitizer and baby fresh wipes. All of these items will aid in our cleanliness and comfort. It is not necessarily true that storing water takes up a lot of space. Your needs can be met by a variety of different sized water containers (everything from 20 oz. water bottles to 55 gallon blue plastic drums. The choice is yours, but just know that the 55 gallon drum will require a pump of some type to extract the water. I awaken startled and it seems like it has all been a dream. The land-locked "Love Boat" known as Four Seasons Beaumont is still afloat. That's right, on Saturday, Aug. 13 it's a Country Western Dinner Dance with a barbecue dinner and all the sides. We'll be tapping our toes to a live country-pop band provided by K. Hovnanian, so be sure to bring your dancing shoes. Tickets for this kick- stomping great time are only $20 and go on sale on Tuesday, July 12 at 10 am in the Lodge.
