30 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | July 2016 | From the President – Dave Cometa: Wow, it's the end of June and a half year has gone by already and now summer is upon us. We have gotten through the so- called El Nino untouched and our warmer weather is nowhere. We have completed two of our four major tournaments so far, the "President's Cup"and the "Memorial Eclectic" with the "Match Play" and "Club Championship" coming up. So what must we do to get ready for these tournaments? Here are a few of my tips: 1. Keep your head down after you hit the ball so you won't see your fellow players laughing. 2. Remember that a bad attitude is worse than a bad swing so keep a good attitude and blame your bad shots on everything else but. 3. Remember that a lot of guys who have never choked, have never been in the position to do so, so relax and don't get discouraged if you find when you went out to play and hoping to shoot you're age, you found out that you shot your weight instead. 4. Remember that the pencil is the best wood in your bag especially if it has an eraser. So, maybe I'm not so funny but I am very serious when I say that we have the best Club in Four Seasons and that the best people in it surround me. Thank you for your support and I am really looking forward to the next six months with you all. From the Tournament Chair – Addis Scott: You may sign up at our prior Tuesday golf event, or contact the Tournament Committee by email at hemet4sgc@gmail.com. From the Membership Chair – Elliot Yaeger: Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club welcomes our newest member, Ken Beckmann, bringing our membership to 158. It is not too late to join. Just stop by the front desk at The Lodge and pick up an application. Complete the application and return it to the Lodge with a check for $63. This will include membership to the club as well as membership to the SCGA, who will provide you with an official handicap bi-monthly. We have tournaments every Tuesday throughout the year including individual play as well as team play. I encourage you to join so that you may also enjoy the camaraderie and fun of playing with great members as I do. If you would like more information in regard to membership and the club please contact me atey1611@gmail. com or (951) 223-3735. From the Handicap Chair – Lynn Smith: Equitable Stroke Control: All scores for handicap purposes, including tournament scores, are subject to the application of Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). This mandatory procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability. ESC is used when a player's actual or most likely score exceeds a maximum number, based on the table below, for the player's Course Handicap from the tees played. Example: A player with a Course Handicap of 6 has a maximum number of par plus two strokes (double bogey) for any hole. A player with a Course Handicap of 13 has a maximum number of 7 for any hole regardless of par. A player with a Course Handicap of 42 has a maximum number of 10 for any hole. Under the rules of golf you must hole the ball out. You cannot pick up the ball when you reach the maximum number that you can post and record that number on the scorecard for that hole. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: There have been some questions about playing a ball in the rough versus from a hazard. Under the rules of golf you cannot move a ball in the rough, but our scorecards list conditions under which our local rules offer some relief. With the exception of moving a ball that is in mud in a bunker, you cannot move a ball in a hazard (normally marked by red stakes). You cannot ground your club in a hazard. You cannot remove loose impediments (natural things like sticks) in a hazard. You can move movable objects or get relief from unmovable objects in a hazard. These objects are artificial items like stakes, rakes etc. You should seriously consider taking relief with a penalty stroke, rather than trying to hit a ball with a very bad lie. When you try to hit a ball with a bad lie you may get into a worse situation, resulting in more added strokes than taking relief with a penalty stroke. Course Handicap Max Number 9 or less Double Bogey 10 through 19 7 20 through 29 8 30 through 39 9 40 or more 10
