Pathways to the Past - Knott's Guided Tour Tues., Oct. 18, 8 am - 4 pm, $52 pp, lunch included. Step back in time to the early days of Knott's Berry Farm and come with us on a leisurely paced walking tour. It is called "Pathways to the Past". You'll recall the Old West and the Knott family heritage with a walk through Ghost Town. The tour includes a visit to the blacksmith shop, the school house, the restored train cars from 1881 & 1883, a ride on the train and a sit down storytelling performance at Mystery Lodge. In the 1920s, Walter Knott and his family sold berries from a roadside stand. In the 1930s, Walter cultivated the world's first boysenberry, a combination of the red raspberry, blackberry and loganberry. In 1934, Knott's wife, Cordelia, began serving fried chicken dinners, and within a few years, lines outside the restaurant were often several hours long. To entertain the waiting crowds, Walter built a Ghost Town in 1940, using buildings relocated from real old west towns such as the Calico, California ghost town and Prescott, Arizona. In 1968, the Knott family fenced the farm, charging admission for the first time and Knott's Berry Farm officially became an amusement park. After the tour, you'll have some time for shopping at Knott's selected gift shops. You'll find bakery shops, jams, jellies, teas, books and specialties gifts. Next we will visit the Claim Jumper Restaurant for lunch (included). If you register at least a week early, we'll be able to save classes that appear to have not met the minimum enrollment.
