48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2016 Billiards for Fun It's hard to believe that the Billiards for Fun Group is almost three years old! However, as the saying goes, "Time flies when you're having fun," and fun we do have every Tuesday! We had a few of our members move away in the past three years, but new people have joined to take their place, and we have such a wonderful group of billiards players! There's always lots of laughter and good-natured banter. We also schedule a bi-monthly potluck, which is always fun. At our June potluck, hosted by Rocket and Patty Spinosa, the decorations were red, white and blue, and as usual the food was amazing. This time, however, we were a little spare on the main course items, but were abundant in the dessert department. Not one person complained, however, as we have excellent cooks and bakers in this group. It would be worth it to you to join the Billiards for Fun Group just for the potlucks. Seriously! We held our yearly Fourth of July singles tournament on July Fourth. Because our group is so large, we had three divisions: Red, White and Blue. Each of the groups played at their designated times, and six of our members received trophies at the Association Picnic in the Lodge at 1 pm the same day. Our winners were: (L-R): Red: 1st place: Ken Gomer – 2nd Place: Pete Antoine White: 1st place: Dave Martin – 2nd Place: David Thomason Blue: 1st place: Lee Harris – 2nd Place: Mike Saperstein Congratulations, everyone! If you are new to the community, newly retired, or just want to join a really fun and nice group of people who play billiards for fun, consider coming by the pool room any Tuesday. We have two sessions: 11 am to 1 pm and 1 to 3 pm. We also have practice sessions at the same times on Saturdays. Come on by and check us out. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine It's such a different experience playing billiards with all ladies. For one thing, women are natural-born nurturers, so we all instinctively help each other. The only problem is when we have a "no-helping" rule during a tournament. At our July Fourth singles tournament, it was so difficult to hold back and not help — mostly by yours truly! However, everyone who played in the tournament exhibited their amazing developing skills, and each of the ladies gave their ultimate best. The tournament took nearly three hours to complete, but we got our winners! Norma Jean Cohen took first place, and Beverly Lunetta secured the second place trophy. (See photos above of the final game, and each of the winners.) The trophies were awarded at the Fourth of July picnic at the Lodge, and the Curly Cues cheered the loudest for our winners! If you are interested in joining a fun group of Four Seasons women and in learning to play pool (we know you've always wanted to), please consider joining us at the time listed above. We'll be looking for you. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Curly Cues Left: Beverly and Norma Jean play the final game Winners Norma Jean Cohen (1st) and Beverly Lunetta (2nd) Ken Gomer and Pete Antoine Dave Martin and David Thomason Lee Harris and Mike Saperstein
