36 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2016 Several months ago we read The Art of Hearing Heart Beats by Jan-Phillip Sendker and at our Aug. 9 meeting we will discuss its sequel, A Well- Tempered Heart. This novel is both a romance and a glimpse into the horrors inflicted on the Burmese people. "Earnest and endearing, this just- arriving-in-translation sequel to the international mega-bestseller, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats, is a through-the-night read that will leave you sighing and swooning… German journalist Jan- Philipp Sendker's novels somehow manage to provide a rare, cleansing catharsis… Just as her father followed his heart home, Julia is called back by a desperate stranger with impossible questions from the other side of the world… But before Julia can answer, she must learn in her own heart 'what is important'… might I add, surely a life lesson for us all." ~ BookDragon. Please join us at 9:30 am, on Aug. 9 in the Lodge. Our discussions are always lively and interesting and newcomers are always welcome, even if you haven't read the book. For more information regarding the Book Club, please call Doreen Sanders at (951) 769-1913. ~ Julie Stayner Book Club Our Four Seasons Computer and Technology Group strives to bring subjects of technology usage to our residents. All residents are welcome to attend out monthly meetings which are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 am in the Lodge Ballroom. Subjects change monthly and we encourage suggestions from the residents regarding topics of interest. Sometimes we draw on our resident skills and other times we reach out to outside sources for presentations. Upcoming presentations include: Aug. 9: The Cloud; what it is, and how to use it. Sept. 13: Using Your Smart phone for Everything. ~ Howard Lyon Computer Technology Writers' Club The Writer's Club has a new leader, Kathy Barnett. Our most recent leader, Alda DyalChand, has commitments to a girl's school in India that will keep her from conducting the regular meetings. During her short tenure, Alda shared her expertise with members of the club. She challenged us to read, and think, and read some more – then write! Her monthly questions to the members always opened up a new direction worth exploring. She will be missed. Kathy came to the meeting and the first thing she did was give us each a copy of the poem she had written just that morning, "Take The Time." There are eight short powerful statements that can lead the way to a better world. "Take the Time: To say hello. To ask how are you. To say I care. To say I missed you. Time passes. As do the chances, To say hello. To say goodbye." You don't have to write a poem or draft a book or write a thin – just come. Everyone is invited. The Writers' Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 1:30 pm in the Lodge. Remember - you do not have to be a writer – we want readers and listeners and dreamers. ~ Jean Laurin-Lawrence On July 8, the Crafty Cardmakers met for the first time. We made three really cute cards and enjoyed meeting some new people from the community. There was plenty of laughing and of course snacking while we made the cards! Our next meeting will be on Aug. 12, at 1 pm in the Craft Room. You only need to bring scissors and glue… everything else will be provided to make three beautiful cards all ready to be sent! The charge for materials is $6. It is really helpful if we know how many people will be coming so we can have enough kits ready. We hope to see lots of people at our next meeting! If you have any questions, please contact Maryalice Chorba (chorbaparadise@yahoo.com) or (951) 849-6336. ~ Howard Lyon Crafty Cardmakers Residents had fun making cards at the first meeting
