12 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | August 2016 | The Access Control Committee has been very busy with multiple projects and transitions lately, so we apologize for missing the last three editions of the Herald. We have lots of news to share for the August edition. First and foremost, Tim Taylor is our new Chair for the Access Control Committee. Tim has been a member of the committee since 2014, and he has been an invaluable key player not only for the ACC, but also for the Facilities Committee with his expertise in providing the upgrades and changes for CCTV monitoring at our gates and lodge facilities. He has literally saved our HOA thousands of dollars of expense! The ACC recently welcomed our newest member, Rick Adkins. We are very excited to have Rick join us as he brings 36 years of experience in the Planning Dept. for San Diego Gas & Electric, and five years of volunteer work on the Facilities Committee and ad hoc committees for rules and architecture guidelines. His knowledge and project management skills will certainly lend to our success with improving safety and access control throughout our community. The Committee continues to seek volunteers who can commit to meeting monthly (2nd Wed of the month at 9 am) and who also have the desire to be engaged with numerous safety policies and procedures that will assist to make our community more safe. We are looking for members who have project management and/or information technology experience, and would be willing to research, analyze and present application information that could facilitate safety improvements for our Four Seasons Community. If interested, please contact the front desk to complete the Volunteer application form. Projects that the ACC have been working on include a study of performances at the World Cup entrance gate. The study has revealed a high volume of traffic and consequent rise in the number of gate crashes and tailgating violations. Between the dates of Jan. 16 and July 1, 2016 we have recorded 23 gate strikes (that we are aware of ), of which 12 of those are at the World Cup entrance gate due to tailgating or passing attempts. You probably have noticed the rather unattractive orange delineators reducing the access lane into the Four Seasons community at the World Cup Gate, and the signs indicating a Beta- Test of a lane reduction. This is a trial evaluation to see if by reducing the access lane, we can improve the safety of those legally entering our community. Prior to undertaking this particular trial, the committee did carry out traffic-volume studies that indicated extremely high volume of traffic entering through the World Cup gate, with an average of 1,600 vehicles daily. The high volume lends to numerous entry violations, i.e. tailgating, stealing other user's fobs signal, driving too fast, with gate crashes as a result of these and other activities. All of these activities have consequences and costs associated with them, costs that have to be borne by either the offender (if we are able to determine and contact them) or the homeowner's association budget. The Access Control Committee has undertaken these studies using information from our camera monitoring systems in an effort to improve and create a safer entry method by reducing this access lane (not withstanding room for emergency vehicles). We ask for your patience and understanding while these trials continue. If our final recommendation to the Board of Directors is approved, this is similar to how the completed installation will look: As most of you know by now, our Allied Barton Security/Safety Team is under the new leadership of site Supervisor Sgt. Maria Martinez. Sgt. Martinez was profiled in our June Herald issue, and brings great experience to the team. She is eager to continue building a strong team and implementing enhancements that will serve our community well. On July 5, the ACC held a collaborative training session with Allied Barton management and all security personnel with our Four Seasons Access Control Community Safety Employee Post Orders that was compiled by ACC member Rik Dennis. We took the opportunity at this session to take pictures of the team so that our residents will become as familiar with them, as we wish for them to become familiar with all of our residents. We will also profile an individual security officer in future editions of the Hemet Herald.
