34 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | August 2016 | From the President – Dave Cometa: To our membership of 4 Seasons Golf Club, I looked up the definition of a club and it reads, "An association or organization dedicated to a particular interest or activity." As I see it, we are a club dedicated to a particular activity called golf, but I also see that as a club we are also dedicated to one another as members, friends and neighbors. I also know that in a club, as in government, not everyone will agree with how things are run and that's okay, but one thing I hope is that we are a club who cares for one another. I know that we have several members who are going through some illnesses and I ask that you would keep these members in your thoughts and prayers. We had a great Memorial Day BBQ, good food and fellowship and my thanks to Sue Mushallo and her team for all their work in making it enjoyable for all who came. Our congratulations go to the Memorial Tournament Winners. They are Bill Swinney, "A" Flight, Dave Cometa "B" Flight, Rob Jenkins "C" Flight and Beau Day, "D" Flight. Well done all. My last note to you all is "it's hot out there" so please, please take caution in staying cool by drinking a lot of fluids, using sunscreen, wearing hats and cool clothing and play fast so you can get back to the club house to enjoy cooling down with your fellow members. From the Tournament Chair – Addis Scott: You may sign up at our prior Tuesday golf event, or contact the Tournament Committee by email at hemet4sgc@gmail.com. We have tournaments every Tuesday throughout the year, including individual play as well as team play. Tee times are 7:30 am from April through September and 8 am from October through March. It is not too late to join. Just stop by the front desk at The Lodge and pick up an application. Complete the application and return it to The Lodge with a check for $63. This will include membership to the club, as well as membership to the SCGA, who will provide you with an official handicap bi-monthly. If you have any questions please contact Elliot Yaeger, (951) 223-3735 or email: ey1611@ gmail.com From the Handicap Chair – Lynn Smith: Equitable Stroke Control: All scores for handicap purposes, including tournament scores, are subject to the application of Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). This mandatory procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability. ESC is used when a player's actual or most likely score exceeds a maximum number, based on the table below, for the player's Course Handicap from the tees played. Example: A player with a Course Handicap of 6 has a maximum number of par plus two strokes (double bogey) for any hole. A player with a Course Handicap of 13 has a maximum number of 7 for any hole regardless of par. A player with a Course Handicap of 42 has a maximum number of 10 for any hole. Under the rules of golf you must hole the ball out. You cannot pick up the ball when you reach the maximum number that you can post and record that number on the scorecard for that hole. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: Do yourself a favor. When your ball lands in the rocks, under bushes or anywhere you have a bad lie and maybe you have trees and rocks in the direction you need to hit, get over your frustration and carefully consider your options. With a very bad lie or an awkward swing path you may hit your ball to a worse position or miss it completely. Be sure you look at all your options, including declaring the ball unplayable and taking a penalty stroke. You can drop your ball two club lengths, no closer to the hole, if you are in rocks or under bushes. Remember that you are limited to the two club lengths, not as far as you have to go to get out of the rocks or out from under the bushes. You can also imagine a line from the pin through the location of your ball. You can, with one penalty stroke, move back as far as you need to along that line as long as you do not go out of bounds. If this does not work, you can with one penalty stroke, hit from where you made the previous shot. The one penalty stroke is often better than all the extra strokes you make trying to hit from a bad lie or where you do not have a clear swing path. Course Handicap Max Number 9 or less Double Bogey 10 through 19 7 20 through 29 8 30 through 39 9 40 or more 10
