On July 4th did you think you were in Kansas? NO… you were one of the lucky ones who joined your Four Seasons friends and neighbors for a "County Fair" – Four Seasons style! Our Plaza looked amazing with all of the decorations, lights, vintage vehicles, chickens, cows and pigs… how classy are we? The pie baking contest, game booths, photo op with special memories captured by the Habig's, Dave and Bev, all added to the festivities for the day. All county fairs have balloons and we were no exception with our "in-house" Addis (Scotty) Scott roaming the plaza in his clown outfit making balloons for all of our residents… nice touch Scotty! Fourth of July would not be complete without a golf cart parade with our Grand Marshall, Mr. Hal Townend, aka, Uncle Sam, who honored all of us with the reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by a patriotic tribute to our American Flag. Thanks Mike McLaughlin for organizing the golf cart parade and for those that decorated and participated in the parade. Behind the creative scene to pull all of this together was our Event Chair, Donna McLaughlin; Co-Chairs Roxy Snider and Sue Mushallo along with a team of dedicated volunteers Betty Barr, Rosie Garrison, Maggie Grimes, Sharon Sims, Kathy Steenblock, Mary Swinney and Phyllis Brumfield, Social Committee Liaison. Also assisting the committee doing a multitude of tasks were Paul Barr, Karen Brennen, Russ Brown, Wally Garrison, Fred Grimes, Becki Kenny, Mike McLaughlin, Tom Moore, John Mushallo, Kevin Snider, Al Steenblock, Bob Sullivan, Bill Swinney, Barbara and Steve Wallace. Our pie baking contest, under the direction of Roxy Snider was a first. Thanks to the following ladies who submitted a homemade pie: Barbara Balser, Karen Brown, Linda Bryan, Janelle Budd, Carol Fishburn, Maggie Fussell, Joyce Kerns and Sandy Tiffin. Our three pie judges: Russ Brown, Mike McLaughlin and Al Steenblock were selected to do the taste testing and awarded First Place to Linda Bryan with her Southern Pecan Pie. Second Place was awarded to Sandy Tiffin with Emma's Apple Pie. Congratulations to both Linda and Sandy, our Four Season top pie bakers. Adding to the ambiance of the Plaza in keeping with our County Fair theme, there was a beautiful display of hand made quilts. Thanks to those ladies who graciously loaned these treasures for our display: Phyllis Brumfield, Diane Jones, Sue Mushallo, Marilyn Rhyne and Sharon Sims. And another big thank you to Dave Balser, Daryl Drake and John Tarabochia for allowing the committee to use your vintage vehicles which complimented our farm scene and game booth areas. Once again, Chef Francisco, provided the perfect fare of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, and beverages for the enjoyment of our fair attendees. In keeping with our theme, apple pie was the dessert provided by the Social Committee. The fun continued with our residents enjoying dancing and listening to the music as provided by Big Truth Little Lies. As always, another thank you goes to our management staff for always being there to make sure all of our requests get results. It was another memorable Fourth of July at Four Seasons and on behalf of the 4th of July Event Committee and the Social Committee, we say THANK YOU to our residents for supporting this annual event. And the beat goes on… Fourth of July County Fair A Hit 8 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | August 2016 |
