OUR YUCAIPA | AUGUST 2016 19 Meet Scooter It takes a special person to love a senior dog and we know our community of animal lovers is special. Scooter is a mature Chihuahua at around 15 years old and she really needs a nice home environment to spend her days. Kennel life is not for her and being in the heat is not an option. She will thrive in a foster home or forever home for sure! Scooter (aka Grandma) has spent many of her days in the YAPS office but the busy chaos that occurs daily is a bit much for her lately. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and micro-chipped. She has a reduced adoption fee and is a perfect match for our senior-to- senior program. She available for adoption or foster. This sweet girl is just waiting for a special home to fill with love. For more information on Scooter or any other of her friends at Yucaipa Animal Placement Society call (909) 790-1440 or email info@yaps.org. • Only one of her ears received starch at the cleaners • She is great at bluffing when playing poker • Bacon is her obsession • Thinks Pokémon Go is over rated Late in the evening on June 16, two small, white, Shih Tzu's were left tied to the fence after business hours at Yucaipa Animal Placement Society (YAPS). The dogs, Sampson and Delilah, were found at approximately 11 pm by YAPS staff. One had an injury to the neck and the other was dead from massive, visible injuries. Their names were included in a detailed note left next to the dogs. Sampson, the injured dog, was turned over to the County of San Bernardino Department of Animal Control pending an investigation. On July 14, YAPS was able to rescue Sampson from the Devore Shelter. "Finding Sampson and Delilah that night was heart breaking, so being able to pick him up from the animal shelter made his rescue special," said YAPS staff member Laurie Hiers. He was taken directly to Yucaipa Animal Hospital for treatment and observation. He was a little dirty but ready to move on. Better days are in his future. "We are elated to have Sampson back in our care. This incident was devastating to our staff and volunteers. Having Sampson back is healing for all," said YAPS executive director, Annette Florez. This week new signage was installed at the YAPS facility warning pet owners of the dangers present when abandoning a pet after business hours. The signs were donated by Rick Jay of AVI Wraps in Beaumont. Now, the focus is providing comfort and emotional healing for Sampson. YAPS is currently seeking a foster home for Sampson. Sampson will be available for adoption on July 29 at the YAPS facility which is located at 11937 13th Street in Yucaipa. If you want to donate towards Sampson's care, please visit the Y.A.P.S. Facebook page. Please call (909) 790-1440 for more information. Better Days Ahead for Abandoned Dog
