48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2016 Billiards for Fun Yikes — is it September already? What happened to summer? I can tell you what the members of the Billiards for Fun Group did. We played pool every Tuesday (and practiced on Saturdays) in the lovely air-conditioned Billiards Room in the Lodge. Yes, we know how to escape the heat and have a good time doing it! We have two sessions on Tuesdays: 11 am to 1 pm or 1 to 3 pm. There is a practice session on Saturdays from 11 am to 1 pm which is always lots of fun. On Aug. 9 we held our bi-monthly potluck, hosted by Claudeen and Juan Diaz. As always, the fare was amazing, plentiful and varied, and it's always fun to have the spouses and guests join us. The following week, Aug. 16, we held our quarterly in-house tournament, which is lots of fun. (Okay, it's intense and competitive too, but we have a great group of billiards players, and we do play for fun!) Because of Breeze deadlines, however, those winners won't be announced until the October issue. If you are interested in enhancing your pool skills, and would love to join a great group of billiards players, come by the Billiards Room any Tuesday at the times listed above and meet the players. We'll be looking for you. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Wow! This group of lady billiard-players is so much fun. There is always lots of laughter, encouragement, teasing and caring. Sure, we're competitive, and as a group we are all increasing our skills with the billiards cue, but the thrill is having fun doing it. It's really delightful to watch as one of the ladies makes her ball (not the 8 ball, of course) in a pocket she didn't intend, and see her face light up with surprise and joy. There's always cheering for those "trick" shots, amidst giggles and teasing, of course. We will be holding our first in-house tournament in September, since most of the women are becoming confident enough to test their proficiency. Although many members have been vacationing this summer, we still are able to fill three tables each week. Hopefully by the time you read this article, all of our travelers will have returned and this group will be complete once more. If you are interested in learning to play pool (billiards), please come by the Billiards Room at the Lodge any Monday between 1:30 and 3:30 pm and meet the group. We have someone to teach you the fundamentals, and then it's up to you to practice regularly to develop the skills we know you have and are secretly hiding. C'mon. Give it a try. We're all learning and growing, and have such fun doing it. Hope to see you this month. ~ Eileen Gilbert- Antoine Curly Cues Joyce Burmester exhibits deep concentration while lining up her shot Janine Rohrbacker shows laser focus
