| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2016 |29 We wonder about the purpose of life… What higher purpose than to discover our True Nature? Meditation, an integral part of proceeding on a path of Self (God) – Realization promises to do just that. When the mind with its myriad thoughts becomes quiet and still, we can feel what lies beyond. The Pure, Non-Dual (only ONE) Consciousness lies beyond and is our True, Undifferentiated and Eternal Being. Satsang (group meeting with a spiritual aim) begins with a 30 min. meditation (15 min. if new people are present) followed by a discourse and a short video presentation offered by a teacher adhering to the same teaching of Non-Duality. As always questions are warmly encouraged. We meet in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Our weekly schedule is as follows: Wednesdays at 2:30 pm – 4 pm (NOTE: On the 4th Wednesday of the month satsang starts at 3:30 pm) Sundays at 2:30 pm – 4 pm This is a FREE offering. My background includes 29 years of formal spiritual practice under the guidance of two masters and seven years of teaching (five at Sun Lakes). You need not bring anything except an Open Mind. My name is Gina and I can be reached at 846-1220 or gina-sat@msn.com or if you have further questions. Meditation: a pathway to truth Karaoke Group One of the best karaoke parties celebrated recently at Sun Lakes, was the farewell send- off party for Theresa Moreno. The South Clubhouse was jam packed with Theresa's friends, neighbors and family members. It was a who's who of karaoke fans and superstars. Theresa Moreno sang many of her favorite songs and passed the microphone around between her sets. We of the Sun Lakes Karaoke Club, Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls and D.J. Blast were so honored and blessed to have hosted this grand event. Theresa's extended family and friends, Bill and Judy Cadman, did such a great job inviting so many people and decorating the clubhouse for this very special party. Sheila and Larry James were on hand and sang wonderfully. Valerie Hubbard knocked them out with her excellent style and delivery of Patti Page and Jo Stafford songs. We also heard from John Reese who was very soulful with the songs Knock On Wood and My Girl. We met such fun people as Sandy Richman and her friend Beverly Bly who added a special flair of their own to the atmosphere as they danced, laughed and made the party a joy to attend. There was a Conga line and even some twisting as Barb, Rosie and D.J. Blast led the audience through the afternoon with some dancing between the many songs that were sung throughout the day. It was a potluck with some really fabulous food but the icing on the cake was unquestionably the fact that we were celebrating the life and times of our very special honored guest and friend Theresa Moreno. Teresa and her husband Tony Moreno had entertained in the Sun Lakes lounge for many years. They had become regulars at Don Mckinnon's Karaoke shows until he passed away. Eventually Theresa and Tony came out and tried the shows of the current torchbearers of karaoke for Sun Lakes known as "An Evening Of Karaoke with-Barb, Rosie & DJ Blast." Tony and Theresa became fans of this different brand of Karaoke and stayed with it until Tony passed away. Theresa is moving to Atlanta, Georgia to be with her family. She will be missed very much. Hopefully as a newcomer you too will become a member of our extended family of singers or spectators. Why not come out and join Rosie, Barb and D.J. Blast this month for singing, dancing and friendship? Our dates for September are Fri., Sept.16 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom and Fri., Sept. 23 in The South Clubhouse. Our shows are at 5:30 to 9:30 pm. We are looking forward to seeing, meeting and hearing you on our karaoke microphones this month. See you in September! All Sun Lakers and their guests are invited to the Fall Art Show which will be held on Sat., Sept. 10, 11 am to 3:45 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Come see outstanding artwork, jewelry, quilts and woodworking done by your friends and neighbors! You will also be able to vote for the "People's Choice Award." David Fairrington will be the Art League's guest artist on Sun., Sept. 18, at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Although mostly associated with portraits, Fairrington paints a variety of subjects and gives valuable critiques to the work of his students. In his presentation, Fairrington will work with the audience in critiquing several paintings brought to the meeting by Art League members. Fairrington grew up in Texas and served as an Army Combat Artist in Vietnam. He currently lives in Beaumont working on projects of his own as well as teaching both individuals and classes.
